Terrible...I don't have a clue what I'm doing. BIL set up a jig with a 1' overhang & soffits; I only want 6". Didn't realize what he'd done 'til I had the 1st one built & torn the jig down. Tried to downsize it & screwed up royally, wasting a lot of material in the process. Not been a good several days. I think I've finally figured it out, but ain't guaranteeing anything.

By soffit do you mean the truss sticks out past the wall so the bottom chord is longer than width of building? Not the tails but the bottom chord.

If it's even with the wall why not build as is and then cut the excess off when finished?
