Truss is 2' wider than the building; a foot on either side. If by chord you mean the base of the truss that is the only part that actually contacts the building, yes. The soffit, as I understand the term, would be the board perpendicular to the wall, extending out to the end of the rafters. Besides which, I'm not climbing 12' up a ladder & trying to operate a chain saw, circular saw, or reciprocating saw; not anymore; too easy to get hurt bad.

Strange he'd build with soffited overhangs. Was it for storage on the outside wall? Once build you could cut the rafter off on the ground. Problem I see is the extra soffit would cost you more in material. And yes I agree stay off that ladder as much as possible.
