Quote: Neighbor's are mostly Amish, some do have some Solar panels and generators, and the last few years they have been adding phone/freezer sheds that electricity is run too.

So do you guys have any fun plans for the long weekend?

Hi Liz!

Back at ya!

All of my family is in the restaurant business so they usually work holidays.
For most of my years at Ford, I worked all holidays.
The company shut down production for 4 days every Thanksgiving. Except skilled trades all worked. Sometimes the union would bring in Thanksgiving dinner for those working.
One year, my son went with a friend to Nebraska for Thanksgiving. My wife and daughter were going to the in-laws' house. I had to work. My job was running the power house that had to be manned 24/7 so there were 4 of us covering all shifts. Since I wasn't going to be able to spend the holiday with family I made a deal with my coworkers. They could stay home and I'd cover all their shifts and they could give me a day in return at our mutual convenience.
So I worked 32 hours straight on turkey day. Since there was no production going on, all I had to do was monitor systems. Incoming electric, natural gas, water, fire protection, compressed air, cooling towers, etc.. Not labor intensive.

I have fencing to finish. I also need to finish the hardware cloth over my coop extension. It is meant to be a winter extension and spring breeding pen as I will be able to open or close the connecting doors.

That stinks. I usually volunteer to cover stuff since I have no family here, but I have been working too many hours and have lots to do. That funny thing is I will work harder at home. Sorry for the raspberry.

Hi Liz!
I get ya.

Amish with solar panels is a hoot.
It may be cheaper than paying to have power lines run a long way.

Some Amish do live pretty primitively.

I always have fencing to do.

I'd like to try but we have too many California buckeye trees
That's a bummer.
