Never ever a dull moment. We spent a weekend there last week helping. Wow is all I can say. I will say this child learns by watching, as most do but she takes it 10 levels up. I'm thinking she needs a chicken or two. Maybe she will concentrate for at least three minutes on them.
Definitely needs a chicken.

There were some tense moments when she (10) pulled my wedding band from my finger, and promptly dropped it through the floor of the porch. I was cool until my mother started mouthing off (low blood sugar) and saying I wasn't getting it back. I couldn't help crying as they (niece and sister) kept losing sight of it. When it was pulled up, my niece began crying out of guilt. I think my sister understands the pain I was feeling now that she's a widow. I kept telling Gabby that I was crying because of the stuff going on in my head. But, she knew she messed up. One mistake she won't make again!!
We're at the pool now. :D

There has to be a special place in Heaven reserved for those who bear the responsibility of raising a special needs child, either by birth or through adoption.  :bow DW works with them every day during the school year as an Aide on the school bus.

Ok spoke with sister. She doesn't have help but she has special needs high school kids as well and they help out. If a student is having trouble that day she wil make a special trip for them. Oh and bus is full and she's a grump her words exactly :lau

And here I thought you were having fun camping. Enjoy the pool, speaking of I need to go clean filter then mow orchard and pick apples

Nothing is in it yet.it my new fish tank
Good luck with your new tank.

Sometime, between feeding all the chickens, horses, goats, dogs and cats... I misplaced my cell phone. :hmm
OOH! I hate when that happens. I've done it. Luckily every time, I had the volume up and battery was charged. My fear is to lose it when ringer is off.
There are services you can use to find your phone. I did the free month trial. It was useful to a point. You can go to a computer and it will pinpoint the location of your phone on a map using the phone's GPS and ringing your phone at an ever increasing volume even if the ringer is off. To test it, I put my phone in a chicken coop. The GPS said my phone was about 2 houses down the street across from me. That was about 600' from my phone. I doubt I would have heard it ring that far away.
I think it would be helpful though if I left it in a restaurant.
I just don't like things with a monthly fee. That's a good way to go broke.

Thats great news!!! I wish i could get my Dad to lose weight
All I have to do is work every day like I did the last 2 and I'd lose weight.

It's almost done. Haven't turned the water on yet old plumbing is hard to get right while soldering. Hope there's no leaks. Having lunch
Soldering is a good skill to have. I've been at it a while. I did all the soldering for solar hot water systems when I worked at the wind/solar power company.
I had to replumb an entire house that had all the copper stolen from it.

Our daughter when she was 3 threw away a set of keys. We didn't figure that out soon enough though. It wasn't till later when we caught her throwing other things away that we figured it out
As a toddler, my daughter went through a phase of throwing things in the toilet and flushing. We had to call a plumber when she stopped up all 3 toilets in the house. We had to remove all 3, take them outside and pull things like doll heads and hair brushes out of them.

Ok so before I can turn the water back on the main valve broke while turning it off. So back to the barn to see if I have a 3/4 valve to fix that. Crud. Some how I knew.....
I was taught to always have an appropriately sized ball valve with compression fittings on hand whenever working on copper. That way, even if it doesn't shut off you can still get a ball valve on and shut the water off.

3 trusses to go...starting to shape up. getting plywood on the roof should be fun!
Looks like it will be a nice building. You should be proud of yourself.

Today's dinner is homegrown corn and burgers... The tomatoes are grown here too, and the buns were made this morning...

That's a good feeling.

You should've been with me on my latest Lowes run. I bought three 2x6x16's and 8 2x4x8's. I have a 12' trailer with a split ramp/tailgate. Two guys came to load it for me; a younger one and one who appeared to be in his 50's. The older of the two grabbed a 16 footer and put it on the trailer with the extra 4' hanging over the front of the trailer.

I told him that would work fine, as long as I drove in a straight line for the 7 mile trip home. Where do they find these guys!
They don't care. When our plant closed, one of my co-workers decided to put in an application at Lowe's. His resume included his 30 years experience as an electrician including ownership of an electrical contracting firm doing residential, commercial and industrial installations. He figured he would probably be able to get a job as an electrical department manager.
He finally got a call. They told him they wanted to start the following Monday - at a warehouse unloading trucks.
He asked if they read his resume. They said no, they didn't care. Did he want the loading job or not?

Yay Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens and Staphylococcus aureus

^^^ the above is a quote, in relation to owning and cuddling with chickens.

Curious - what's your "hand washing" technique?
I never understood cuddling chickens

- or any other livestock for that matter.

I need to recheck my corn. Friend from Mexico gave it to me. Red and white. Wasn't ready a few days ago. Very large kernels.

Not sure what dinner will be. Just winding down from putting tools away.

Did you notice the webs under the deck I had to crawl through? Yea there were spiders.
That's the absolute worst part.
We had a water test that was similar to a car wash but it hit the vehicle from every conceivable direction with high pressure water to detect any place in the vehicle that had an opening the water could possibly penetrate. There was a deep pit below the car wash with huge pumps and conveyor motors. The pit was about 12' deep and about 50X50' square. There were light fixtures along all walls. From water dripping into the pit, it always had about 3' of water in it. Eventually all the lamps burned out and I had to go down and replace them all. Above water line, it was wall to wall spider webs (spiders included), pitch dark and wading through water I went from fixture to fixture. In spite of the spider webs my thoughts were that there were rats down there. I could imagine them swimming around waiting for something like me to climb up on.
Unglamorous job at best.

Well, I just left two cockerels that refused to go in out with their coop coop open. If they get eaten it is their own fault. This is not the first time they did not want to go in when I needed to leave so too bad. I don't need them, they are for sale, and who needs cocks that won't listen to "chickens in the coop, chickens in the coop"? I need birds that can be let out and put up on command. I miss my old cock he did not like me much, but he was great with the girls and would get them in when I sang.
I occasionally have those. They either decide to sleep in a tree or on top of the coop. Sometimes they live, sometimes they don't.

I told my BIL today that it's a good thing this isn't a union job; the Foreman would have canned me in the first 5 minutes.
I was a very good electrician - but slow. I never could have made it as a construction electrician. I could do it, just not fast. It was better when troubleshooting, building automation panels that required more precision or working with robots.

Just on safety alone. Your ladders are not tied off. We had a guy spend many hours on the roof alone because the wind blew it down. Not sure who rescued him. He tied off after that.
A roofer buddy of mine hates all the safety stuff. I loved it. I wanted to know I would go home at night in one piece and alive.
About 20 years ago they started getting serious about 'working at heights', 'confined space', 'arc flash safety', ECPL (energy control and power lockout) training - among others. Guys didn't like wearing harnesses and tying off when working in the steel. I was much more relaxed when doing so.

For sure!! Best corn I've ever eaten.

We used to have the water boiling, run out, pull and shuck the ears and drop them right in the water.

We mostly leave them unshucked now, soak them in water and then grill them. Flavor is great.

Maybe I should try to sleep on the deck tonight. It'd be just like camping. Not sure if the raccoons would go for it or not.
Raccoons may lick you on the face.

I'm always amazed how freaked out people are by the "diseases" that poultry carries... yet will let their dog and cat sit on their furniture and lick them after licking their butts. :hmm

Are you guys constantly worried/obsessed with getting diseases from your birds?

I'm of the "wash your hands well and not stress about it." variety of person.

I'm not. Obviously, I wash my hands if there is visible fecal matter on them, but otherwise I don't worry. If I had an unhealthy immune system I'd change my ways, but as it is I think washing hands every time you interact with them is overkill.... For me. Young kiddos, the elderly, and sick should by all means be very careful!
