Morning Mike. As of last night the hen hadn't taken the eggs yet. Still setting in front of her. Too dark to see out yet. At this point she may have one egg if she laid on Monday.

I think I'm going with corrugated steel roofing; cheaper than asphalt shingles, and a lot faster.

if you do that you should also have a couple of the 'clear' ones for some natural light

I'm in the middle of nowhere in Alabama... I have lost 8 chickens total in the last 3 years, all to Hawks except one that a wild dog got after swimming across pond.

It's a good thing you don't live around a city. The raccoons would already have them around here.

The egg is fine. I didn't pay attention to when they (both parents take turns sitting) began sitting. I know it is due anytime this week. ChickenCanoe is pushing for me to hand raise it! LOL! In that case, I gather I would need squab food. I didn't get too into the diet since I have no intention of interfering with the parents.

I'm not pushing you to hand raise it. Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you had the egg in an incubator or under a chicken.

I set more eggs tonight mostly serama, I candled and pulled tons of infert serama, here we go again with the serama issues ugh!!! So I have three sets in, set due each week starting next lol

I added 7 (2 CCL, 5 Dom) more eggs to my broody(s)

I candled them whichamajiggers in the bator the other night and pitched one so down to 7.

Barred Rock broody given Cream Legbar, Sapphire, and Green egg layer eggs. I marked them, but did not get a count she was getting upset. I did not want to chase her off. She has at least eight. I will get a number when I catch her off the nest.

My broody is done with her hatch. Started with 12 eggs, 1 got crushed and died, 1 missing completely (think a snake got it), the remaining 10 hatched. 9 are with broody mama and doing great, 1 in the house with me ... Praying it survives!
