Do you guys notice that newborn chicks that hatch with you, are different then day old chicks you get from other people?

Our other chicks seem scared to be handled, but this newborn chick seems to really like being held by people. When she saw the other chicken for the first time, she liked it, but when our silkie runs from hands in the brooder, our hatched chick just walks over and is like "sup" lol

I will never buy fully grown chickens from anyone again. I have bought silkies from someone but they were so skid dish at first but now they have calmed down a lot and they weren't fully grown so they had time to get ypu see to me I can't seem to get the one hen I bought to calm down so everytime I go in to do a head count before I lock them in she just starts cackling so loud as soon as I open the door so I get her off the roost and stick her outside in the run until I am done. And if she can't start laying eggs instead of those soft shelled eggs when she gets the same thing as everyone else I am posting her on Facebook forsale.

Is your hygrometer calibrated? And how long are you giving it to raise the humidity, are you add cold, warm, or hot water?

Yum!

Hi! Nice dogs!

I just bought a can of spam last week.

I eat things that eat veggies and things that go into salads, does that count?

That is why it is so good, Shoulder of pork + ham = delicious!

Yuck I don't like canned meats even in campbells soup I pick all of the meat out I don't like that Googly meat if it is even meat. Who knows the campbells chicken and rice is pretty good I just still pick the meat out it,

Can anyone tell me what day this egg appears to be on? I received them from a breeder and she said they were started. My pullet went broody the day before the eggs arrived (what luck). I let her know that i had eggs in the incubator that would be on day 7 on Sunday. She said that the eggs she was delivering would hatch about the same time. To my very untrained eye and looking at many pictures I think her eggs are a lot farther along than mine. If they are will they hatch too soon for the broody? I have 6 eggs that were not started and those are in the bator, should I switch them for the ones the broody has? ( I hope that I am making sense.).

I have a question about shipped eggs. I'm on day 19 and they are in lockdown. Trying to get the humidity up any suggestions? I have cups and bowls of water on empty shelves with water and it's not doing much. I also wanted to know if the eggs should be taken out of the cut up egg cartons and put horizontally or leave them in the cartons?

she delivered the eggs heated? from just down the road or what? she could have had the eggs at a higher temp than you had in the bator, had you also calibrated thermo/hygros? you are certain your temps are spot on? see above post I helped someone else if you need calibration links. as long as each batch is separate you should be ok, if you notice she hatched the other ladies and the hen leaves the nest with the chicks you will have to put them in your bator, not sure you can keep a close enough eye on the broody? So I hope I follow you!

Joey I lost your quote and a bunch of others, HOWEVER.... Its nice to see you post, and I cant watch vids on this internet only cell when I have enough data, but I can say that I just love the coloring, so much different than hatchery are they not! Freds Hens reds I raised were just lovely, I would never settle for a RIR other than Heritage! they are just beautiful things. I hope you and the wife and kiddo are doing good! Still hot I see, I hope it cools for you soon, we have finally had two lovely days!
