For real? How long is too long in the fridge before hatch rate declines significantly?
I've hatched them after a week in the fridge without a problem.

Here's the inside chickies:
The last one is my little spraddle leg chick. My son named him "Pipster."
Haven't taken pics of the outside chicks yet cause I was busy this morning trying to separate the broodies. They decided to fight over the chicks so I had to create a separate area for one of them. Drama queens.![]()
Ok... There is a funky smell coming from the incubator that has eggs waiting to pip, and a chick who pip'd n hatched too early(in a cup with a wet paper towel wrapped around her)... It doesn't smell like death or rotting, but it's a kinda metallic smell with extra funk. It's getting stronger as the day goes on... Is that just from the earlier hatchlings? Or is that the beginning of an egg gone bad? I have had a black yolk during eggtopsy, so I know that smell, this isn't really that... My other incubators smell a tiny bit like this also, but for lack a better description, smokey like... Describing smells that you've never encountered before is hard :-/
Ohh!! I know exactly what you mean!! I don't know what causes it though.... I have it every hatch.
Don't know about normal, as it is quite possible I'm doing stuff wrong, but at least it didn't lead to exploding eggs!Well, if it's "normal" then I'll just try to ignore it... I can't wait to disinfect this thing lol
