Bella goatling has gone to get new home. Billy goatling is going Saturday. Jangles will be with us three more weeks while his new fam gets a nice barn built. DH apparently wants to keep Beaux, but we'll see. It would be nice if the brothers could stay together. She just wants pets and prefers them wethers, so it's perfect!
Wow, been busy selling goats!

I fed the broody and candled all 9 of her eggs; 8 of them look great! One looked murky and felt cold. They should hatch Sunday-Monday.
Good news on the 8

Awwwww  I bet sad to let them go, that will be hard for me too!    I was out for sometime holding errrrr ummmm sorta lap hanging at this point these guys and girls tonight.  Thinking how will I hold them in the winter :lau   such a tenderheart as I get older ughhhh

Guess you'll be buying diapers for housegoats.

you have to be kidding!!!  I am not THAT soft!! ha ha ha

Day 7 is tomorrow, but I saw veins the other day! This has been the slowest week evar.

I put my 5th batch of eggs from my chickens in my incubator over the weekend.  It has an automatic turner and the humidity is between 55 and 60%.  I have never gotten a live chick from my incubator.  I had a little cheapy one that I couldn't keep the humidity correct and then bought a nice big one with the turner installed.  Last batch I put 8 eggs in but only 5 had a dot in them on day 4.  I kept them in there until they were 3 days overdue.  Then I cracked them all open and 3 were nothing, 1 was a teeny little chick that had started and failed to grow and 1 was big and filled the shell and may have pipped out on it's own if I had known to float check him.  I just learned about that here a few days ago.  So now I have about 12 eggs in the incubator starting over.  Let's see how they do now that I know a little more.  Thanks for all the info though on humidity & temp levels.

YAY!!! Finally I have two little chicks that popped out today!! They are too cute!! Here's my next question... now what? I'm going to leave them in the house under a heat lamp in a crate. But how long before they are ready to go to my outdoor brooder? I have 3 week old chicks out there right now but they are going to the bigger brooder in a day or two!

:weee Anytime! I wait until they aren't wobbly, but @Blooie has hers outside from day one.

I tried to catch up on the thread but got stumped here....  great.....  :th :idunno

:D I was wondering about being a single parent. I'm going with yes.
The lack of someone to engage with turns the brain to mush. No stimulation equals death.
Having a little one further kills brain cells IMO. While your brain races for the answer to, "why is she crying?" "Why did she just do that?!" "How did she get that quarter up her nose?!" As well as making up conversations, you also don't have real thoughts and opinions to talk about.
ChickenCanoe mentioned a social life. Sexist, but I am going to say it. A man can't understand why a female would rather stay away from the social scene. Let alone a married man.

@ChickenCanoe Being social isn't an option for me.

Thanks! Yes, we are "act first, think later" types, which is fun but stressful. So we bought the first two boys because the price was right and they had cute floppy ears. THEN we picked a breed. And we did the same with chickens, got five barnyard mixes and learned from there.

It's certainly a lively way to do things.

Hi! I like keeping my chicks inside a week or so to play with and watch for problems. As soon as I have to clean the brooder, they are kicked out. I can't recommend it for everyone, but mine have been without heat as low as 28* at three weeks this past year. I kept an ear open until midnight, and back out at six, but they never made a sound.
