I figured just wash your often.
And not worry so much.... Living on steroids the way I do I don't get sick often. And I have a weak immune system.
Just use common sense..... No licking the chickens......

We keeep alcohol based hand sanitizer around, and I make the kids use it after going in the chicken coop. I make them bathe and change their clothes quickly after spending time holding/cuddling with chickens. As far as I know, no one's ever licked a chicken.

Common sense is required, but I refuse to stop licking the spatula just because "they" say backyard eggs are dangerous.

Makes you wonder who "paid" for the study for backyard eggs... that can skew the findings too.

CDC is a government agency so no one entity pays for that. It was just a report of statistics on numbers of salmonella cases. They just state statistics.
That's what the CDC does. They investigate reports of illness and make recommendations based on their findings. Same with Zika, Ebola and others.

so the CDC backed it?

A lot of studies are privately funded though, too. which can skew the results!

That's why it's important to know who the source is.

I can't 100% say I trust our government though. haha

I think hand washing after playing outside, or touching ANY animals are important.

However.... keeping small children from touching chickens isn't going to happen when you have kids who love them. Even the baby has held a chick.
