Well I just got the first real night's sleep in a long time... Unfortunatly I am still sick. Having bad lungs sucks..... But I guess I just plug along..... Hope you all are having a good weekend.
I'm glad you got a good night sleep, sorry you're still sick though.

I am so tired. MY toddler decided to wake up at 1am, and didn't go back to sleeep until almost 6am, and then, my older kids were up and ready for breakfast.

:hmm I can't even see straight. He's cutting his molars, so he's been really grumpy lately, on top of not sleeping well. :(
Sounds like a rough night and morning.

Duckling has been around so many baby birds, she did not care about the dove. But, she cried when a hen flew out of the box. I know she will develop new fears, but should I worry about this one? She doesn't mind them running around her as they burst out of the coop in the morning, and eating from the feeders as she fills them.
it will pass when she is bigger

Now that veryone is seeing his everyone is going to buy eggs from the store again geuss I need to add a lot more chickens to the flock. You will understand once you read
you dont need to add more, the study is that commercial eggs are regulated and backyard flocks are not

Sorry about my "fowl" mouth in the above post.

Like I said I don't have kids so sometimes words just fly around here. I have to maintain cool at work & I think I have a case of cabin fever on top of it all. But my Serama "Stan" is still alive. He tore into some mealworms & I put them all to bed-which is where I am headed now. Good night everyone and thanks for sharing all the cute pics of you feathered famiies and all the helpful hints. It makes being "cooped up" a lot better

I'm hoping/trying to make a one-man job of getting the sides closed in with T1-11 siding. Finishing the back side of the roof is definitely a 2-man operation, & BIL may be out of commission for a while with health problems. Have a call in to another carpenter friend, but haven't heard anything out of him...didn't answer his phone earlier.

Morning y'all. Looks like unfavorable weather for a work day.

that stinks

Good to hear Paddler!!! congrats!!

I was looking up info on the steel roofing, and found that sometimes they leave the existing shingle roof on!!! this is just one page I was reading! Heck its cheaper and less hassle to do my little house roof this way then too!!!

they put a radiant barrier down over shingles http://blog.ecofoil.com/2013/06/26/install-radiant-barrier-under-a-metal-roof-in-3-easy-step/

people around here do that the problem is that the shingles hold moisture and the wood under the shingles could be damaged, and getting worse

No. I have been with this health system for 3 years. Unfortunately we accrue CTO-paid time off which is equal to weeks a year-sick or vacation time. I don't have any left because I just started back full time in May and then got sick with pneumonia. And this was a workmans comp injury-my hand was smashed between a stretcher and a door. There is an 8 day waiting period because I am not "fully disabled" they have to try to find work for me within the system . But they are taking they time and nobody can make a decision or get back with me so that leaves me where I am. i am going back Monday to do "paperwork" but hopefully I can work with new grads and orientees training. It is a sad system-I spend my life taking care of others every day and when I am hurt or need help no one is there to look out for me

Day 3, and I candled the eggs just to see if they were more stable so I could start turning them. a couple of them are still jiggly air cells, they were clear upon arrival and they all have a dark spot/yolk visible now.... so that's a good thing, I think. (Still learning here.)

The air sac's being jiggly make me nervous to touch them and roll them around... but, I also don't know if I should just flip them once a day, or what's the best way to do it with jiggly air cells?

That study makes a point about letting kids be near the chickens, or paly with them.

All animals can have the potential for diseases. Why do they focus so much on chickens being worse? Pet birds in the house of any sort, can carry diseases. As can rats, pet frogs, turtles.... (granted, chickens are more common that turtles.) But, there are so many things kids touch, that can have diseases or germs. :/

I'll be honest. I've known LOTS of people with pet chickens... and I don't know anyone who got sick from them. I know it CAN happen.... but your kids more likely to contact RSV (A SERIOUS complication for people with weakened immune systems) from the grocery store, during the fall or early spring.
