it wasnt yet five am and we do have neighbor through the woods lol!!
Sally, I could have sworn I posted, and asked you a question, but now I can't find where it posted, so now I'm not sure I asked it. Doh.

I was wondering if you had any tips, or techniques for shipped eggs, being turned by hand, up right in a egg container, for higher chances of survival? Since I had 2/6 fertilized eggs make it past day 10 in the small incubator, I wanted to see if there was anything else I could add, to try to make more make it... I only got a couple of black silkie eggs, and I'm really hoping one of them survives.

(I read through the stuff again, but personal experience, if you had any idea that may apply here.)

@Sally - I posted some of the candled egg air cells... there's a total of 28, but the majority look like the ones I shared, there's a couple obvious saddle ones, jiggled ones, I lost 2 eggs to being broken open completely, and 2 with minor cracks that I fixed with liquid bandage (a pip hole style crack, so maybe salvageable.)

Any personal suggestions on shipped eggs besides the upright thing? I was planning on turning them starting on monday, putting them into the incubator tonight before bed and just leaving them alone over the weekend.

Since there's so many of them, I was going to candle them in small chunks every few days. (like around day 5, 6 7, candle each line seperately, remove any that are dead, etc.)

What's the best way to do a bigger batch?
Shipped Eggs = Change Of Plans! post #53845
this is exactly what i do in there sweetie!! treat each egg differently if it is different than the others

Our hen,Brownie has 7 chicks!! Another is hatching now and the 9th I'm not sure is alive. How long should I give this egg before I .......sadly rid of it? Will share pics later. Have errands to run. Waaah boring!!!

Congrats on the precious babies!!!!!

Y'all crack me up on here....I'm definitely in the other category as well.

Glory had an issue with the RED ANTS killing chicks, Who else had this issue? I forget!

The hen I posted a picture of after she died, neck n head picked clean
So sorry! I hope you get a pullet. I have my fingers crossed for my lone Ameraucana pullet of four 4/2/16 that has not laid yet. My Sapphire started and lays a very pale blue, but she started and has laid eight days in a row. The HRIR and my Ameraucana are my last hold outs of this year's hatches.

You can back cakes and sell them!

If I can't get anyone to buy my eggs, how on earth would I get them to buy baked goods? It is much easier to just let the flock have them back.

What is the connection between the two? Does anyone that don't want to buy eggs also don't want to buy cakes? Is it some kind of a low there?

That's the problem, (I took pictures of the air cells in each egg, so I can remember what shape their air cell was, when I put them in, so I could remember which ones were saddled, vs just jiggly, etc.

When you keep them in the incubator in the container and just turn them a few times a day gently (I think i'll skip the egg turner this go around.) is there anything else you'd recommend besides "hands off and pray?" for the most part? LOL

I was asking if you had any techniques to candling a larger quantity of eggs, too. I've never had more then like 6 before at a time, and with 2 past day 14 in each previous batch. So, putting 28 eggs in, if I candle around day 5-7, what's the best way to do a larger batch of eggs?

Never heard of sea glass....'splain me, por favor

broken bottle in the ocean gets thrashed around and come out smooth and cloudy/frosted

Yep, that stuff. It's not always as pretty in real life. I picked up a piece of dr pepper bottle on my last trip, I'll take a pic later.

I AM NOT A BUILDER OF ANY SORT but I toyed with the idea of making a big rock tumbler out of a washing machine drum or something similar, and trying to make my own sea glass.

I know nothing of sea glass other than what Liz just told me, but I doubt it could be done in several eons, let alone a single lifetime

That's with the soothing waves of the ocean. I would gyrate the heck out of it.
