I agree.  My first comment about target practice refers to a crossbow. And  dispatching trapped coons or possums. Still too risky?

It's iffy. I think alot of the issues from today arise from perception and the possibility of offending or concerning others. I don't necessarily agree with this mentality but it is the society we live in. I personally have my concealed carry and carry majority of the time. I carry concealed for a reason even though open carry is legal in my state. Not sure how the neighbors would feel about a weapon that close. Especially if they aren't familiar with them. Also depends on the setting, if you know the neighbors and are on good terms with them it could work.

FIRE ANTS chicks can eat them I know they killed then and I am so sorry for u and them

Well what happened was...my hen ,Paisley, had 9 eggs. They all started hatching at the same time. My husband and I went to Walmart. When we got home I immediately went to check on her. The fire ants were by the hundreds!!! All over the eggs still hatching and covering the chicks that had. It was deathly hot. The ants were seeking moisture. They sting. And they inject a venom. It was just too much for these lil babies. It was a shock to their lil systems. I was so upset and devastated. Crying as I picked ants off their bodies. I was stung multiple times. But who cares?! I was trying to save them. Was able to save two. Which are thriving!!! I was determined to never let this happen again. Now,Paisley built her nest outside of the coop. On the ground. I hated this. But I figured she knew best. Well it was fine until hatch day. So when Brownie did the exact same thing....no....uh UH! I moved her and her eggs to a safe place. And Walah! Success! Thank you for your condolences. I really appreciate it.

God bless you,

Glory

Oh my. I am so sorry this happened to you.

That's crazy awful.

Yes it really was. I was so mad at the ants. I'm from California. Was born and raised...we do not have fire ants. I hate them. I love to be barefoot everywhere...nope not here in SC. Watch out when wearing flip flops too. They're terrible. Smallest things ever with a humongous wrath.

This remains to be seen. I would buy a target and practice a lot. The prey would be trapped and shot at close range. If I become proficient, I might attempt to shoot a treed predator on my own  tree. Besides noise, I am very concerned about stray ammo in the city.

I've been studying these CCI Quiet bullets and reviews seem mixed as to how quiet they are.
My understanding is this:
They are designed for long rifles and not recommended for auto  loading firearms. My pistol uses a clip. They could be loaded into my pistol one at a time but still louder than a rifle. I guess I'm too uncomfortable with the gun in the city. I'm talking 60' x 120' lots stacked next to each other. In the country I would do it.

Thanks for all the information and encouragement! :D

Yep no shooting in town. Heck I'm leary of it in the country. Too many things can go wrong.

Yep no fire ants here. Just east of Sacramento. Rattlesnakes and a few big varmits but no fire ants.

Aweee! Good someone else who's not afraid to protect theirs by any and all means necessary! Mine is my 22. Rifle works best but pistol does well. 12 gauge is another go to.

Thanks! I have a 22 pistol I inherited. I could use it if one were to be caught in a trap,

It's been locked in a safe 15yrs,  but I remember it not being vewwy qwiet.

Yuppers! I love my 22. Great predator gun. If need be. I wish they'd just forget about my farm but the odds of that happening......lol hey I hear ya!! You should hear my 270 deer rifle!!!

Avid hunters here!!!

God bless!

I like my .243 Savage Axis. I've heard & fired the .270....no thanks

Lol How come not?? Too loud and too powerful?? I dig it!! Also love my hubs 30 O'6!!! And deer season is open so yay!!! Now,I've gotta catch up to me hubs! Although I will say,we are picky about what we harvest. We do not believe in 'if it's brown,it's down'. No sirry....we have standards.

Them new ones are fancy. I'd like to get one but there are quite a few I would like to have better. Almost commented on your quote a few days ago about telling someone to tell their husband to buy a gun in exchange for either eggs or chicks. What if I want both???
I agree and I would almost say the yellow isnt quite bad enough to justify red so maybe it should cancel out one of the reds.
I do the dishes as well. Grew up with my mother and 3 sisters they did the cooking and I was responsible for clean up.
Dont get me started on the dishwasher. silverware bugs me the most. they make individual slots and I'm of the belief that the reason is to sort as you load. Also all silverware should be handle up. I had to zip tie the middle portion of our silverware tray closed because it was a tad too big and spoons would fall sideways and get stuck.
I wish I could shoot the pellets. The percussion caps don't burn hot enough to ignite it though. I've considered changing the nipple out but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I just bought the axis in .308 back a few months ago. Love it so far.
.410 should be a shotgun and technically not a rifle.
Based on that cramped of a space I'm not sure any firearm would be appropriate. No matter what you are shooting there's always the possibility of ricochet.

Exactly how it works here as well. Mom taught us that some day you may have to help in the kitchen as well as laundry etc. Cooking the works. Moms know best.
And silverware is the worst. :lau

Can you hit what you're aiming at with a xbow?

.22 short is relatively quiet

Yes they are but these are supposed to be quieter. I'll have to get some from son and give them a try. Skunks are back
