his has straps on them, but he is able to get them off, regardless. He just bent the arms until they aren't shaped like glasses anymore. LOLwhen I was little they started me on a schedule....
an hour on and I would forget about them then when I took them off 30 minutes later it was again a treat and somethig to fill my time to keep my thoughts off of them. I had a strap so they were not easily took off. eventually my ears and nose and eyes got used to them

i think i have heard this, on vinyl while in schoolDoes anyone else remember this? If so, you're old as the hills. I had it on a 45 (that's a 45rpm vinyl record for younger people - they were used on turntables with a disc that allowed them to be played on the same turntable with albums (78s and 33 1/3s) when I was little and loved it.

i'd still ike to see it, thats a big areait's not really worth showing lol.we used what fence we had and the flooding made the run solid dirt instead of grass.and all our chickens are together except our silkoes.
i havent washed my hands once for these 3 oopsIt gets easier. Leave the gunk. If you want to wash it off, be sure the water is warm enough, the room is warm, and no water gets in its nose.

I believe it applies to all incubators. I honestly think it only slightly matters the number of eggs. For me, I know how to get a good hatch in both of my incubators... Ignoring most of the advice given by even me! I have horrible hatches when I rotate eggs around the incubator. Even though I know I have clean hands when I do it.
trimming helps a lot!why do you think your silkie failed to do his job? (curious, since i'm starting a silkie flock) I was reading that they recommend trimming silkie's vents and the boy rooster's area so he can breed easier.
I wasn't sure if that was just recommended, or actually made a huge difference. LOL
It doesn't matter what it looks like as long as it is safe and functional for the birds.... Mine may be "pretty" but what good it that if it is all mud and the chickens get sick or are not happy & healthy??? My duck pen is nowhere near as nice but it works for them and keeps them safe. I guess the point I am trying to make is it is better to do with less and do well than to try and do more than what you can handle and risk the health and safety of the animals. This rationale comes with time, age and practice... and cost.... be sure you can always handle the responsibility you accept. If my hand doesn't heal I may have to get rid of a lot of my birds. Is that what I want-absolutely not!!! But is it what is in the best interest of my health and the health of my flock... YES!!!! This is why you have to be 18 or older to play the games for eggs.... There are hard decisions to be made when it comes to accepting the responsibility of another living thing. I have to give my Seramas special feed and keep my garage heated like my home if I want to breed show quality birds and that is very expensive. I just want you to think before you act and be successful at what you do instead of failing trying to do something half a**... you get the picture?![]()
no newspaper @Roada Red its bad for babies!!! slipped tendons and stuff, get it out!
a multigrain bagel with veggie cream cheeseWhat is the last thing Everyone ate?
I'm hungry! I had provolone cheese and a unique pretzel as a snack, didn't take care of ma belly though.
yummmmthree cheese toast... with ricotta, marrinated munster and havati... weird huh? i love cheese... we make it. told my hubby next time i'll make the cheese and he can look after the incubation/htching...cheese doesnt die!
yes please!! lots of space, in fact i was just given a bunch of venison to help fill itI was given 12 large cans, and 4 small cans of pumpkin yesterday. What did not expire between 2009 and 2011 equals 2 large and a small can. I'm now going to make some pies and cookies... Maybe.
Anyone have extra freezer space they want filled?
go sally! you got a mustang we dont know about lolwhat vehicles in general or a carb? a device in an internal combustion engine for mixing air with a fine spray of liquid fuel.
thats unfortunateVehicle in general
Yes I know what carburetor is doing, but brands, types name of parts....nothing!
thanks Sally. A dozen silkie eggs fell into my lap today so what else is a girl to do.
the only bull i have ever met (face to face) likes to cuddle with people, he is friendlier than the heifers, and they all have hornsThey were fairly sweet when I went over.
He's an older teen, but IMO bulls are never safe for anyone. A vet I met told me quite a few tales of bulls pulling head crushes out of concrete....
I don't feel so good. ..
So looking like you've all gone to bed, but I thought I'd report back anyway....
Came home from work... (face painting if anyone would call that work?? but hey, I get paid!)
Candled and tapped remaining eggs as instructed. No movement... no cheeping...
Floated them... no movement.

All the air cells were quite small?? I think too small?? so does that mean too much humidity on days 1-18??
I am yet to do eggtopsies...got to work up the courage too.
So out of 11 fertile eggs, I have 5 chicks (one sticky, but ok) and 6 who didn't make it.
on the bright side... I WILL GET GOOD SLEEP TONIGHT BECAUSE I WONT BE WORRYING!!!
Thanks so much to all the wonderful people who gave me advice. Was much appreciated. God bless you all, you are amazing!
Calibrate!I candled at day 8 then again at day 18. It's my first attempt... still so much to learn!
I thought they looked fine at both candleings! is that even a word?? anyway. I think the main problem is the incubator, its a generic one i bought off ebay. I think the temp is even because the hatch was so staggered. So i plan to encase it in styrofoam box it came in.. to try to keep it more even..hopefully. Then I think i had the humidity to high through the first 18 days... Dont think i can trust the humidity meter (I know they have a proper name but im tired)
super cute, i hope you can get it on tape sometime!!It is cute, isn't it? I have tried to record her calling out in the morning, but it doesn't work. Either she falls silent too soon, or the microphone doesn't pick up her voice. I don't think I will be forgetting anytime soon though. She is a funny child. I am so blessed to have her.
a couple weeks for my local fair where i am entering 2 of my chickens then the best holiday ever (IMO) lol!!! It's october!!! Just a few weeks until Halloween!
Have a great day!!!Good morning everyone. I finally caught up, but I am almost finished with breakfast and it is time to head back outside as soon as I decide which project I don't really want to do today and get on it. Yesterday I was off and did a vet trip, blood draw, coop construction as I am linking two coops for the winter, cleaned a coop, and stained the coop and my goat plaything I built a couple of weeks ago. By the time I finished chores and caught up you were all asleep except Bennie.
I hope you all have great and productive days, and that you feel better Bennie.
they should be okHey all,
So far so good with our classroom incubation (Brinsea Mini Advance, locally-sourced Ameraucana eggs, one clear and one quitter ~day 6 so we have 5 left.) We candled yesterday early Day 18 and all 5 still looked great. We prepared for lockdown EXCEPT I forgot to turn off the automatic cooling feature
It goes off first thing in the morning so I could easily get there Monday to stop it, but it will go off on Day 18 and 19 over the weekend (we set eggs in the afternoon, so Day 18 runs Fri around 2pm-Sat around 2pm.
Do I need to freak out about this and try to get access to the school over the weekend? Or will it be ok for the eggs to cool for an hour on Day 18/19 if Monday morning I rush in and turn it off before it goes off Day 20/21?
Kind of worried here...
YOU BETTER NOT!!I solemnly swear I will not lift a shovel today!!!!!![]()
what about a brown sugar with a dark beer glaze@Akrnaf2 . Most people like a pineapple glaze with chunks or a curry sauce (I don't mind the glaze, but prefer the pineapple uncooked), cornbread is a popular side like was mentioned. It is a sweeter meat dish.
I used to do it (horse, dog craft, sewing, and quilting)http://4-h.org/about/what-is-4-h/

try to talk to the local 4h department head to see if you can be a 4h volunteer leader and start you r own horse clubI believe they post pictures of events sometimes, but as far as I know, it's all local for people.
The only thing my daughter was bummed about, is they don't do horse shows as part of our local 4h clubs (some do) it's really dependant on each area, what they do/allow, so each 4h club can be drastically different from another one.
They also sometimes go to schools and teach nutrition classes, and other stuff. We homeschool, but they require a certain amount of volunteer work to get points, in order to participate in auctions.
Yep!they are. sometimes the chickens can sell for 200+ a pop.
These shows aren't to get cheap livestock - this is where people waste money to support the kids and local farmer associations.
Today is day 21. I am patiently impatiently waiting and trying not to check every 30 seconds. Everyone says like popcorn once they start hatching but it's been very slow popping with one a day. Hopefully today the rest will hatch. Trying not to open and take out the one lonely chick in the incubator.![]()

like a LF polishAlot of dual purpose chicken ARE WONDERFUL and look fancy!
could beSo my one lonely chickin the incubator is cuddling with one of the eggs. Does this mean that it is close to hatching?![]()
put the silkie in with the babies, she is young enough, but just keep an eye on them JICMy silkie is really gentle, do you think she'll adopt any chicks I hatch to show them how to eat and drink? I was debating on putting her in with the 2 silkie chicks next week if they hatch... (especially if only 1 makes it out again.) Or.... wait until my ducks get here and stick my ducks in with the two possible silkie chicks?
Decisions, Decisions!
POISON!!!!!Good morning y'all!
I have a question: is borax harmful to chickens? I'm wanting to make a solution to kill the ants in my chicken pen. Thanks!
