This is a 4 day old duckling that I thought had wry neck, so I went shopping and bought all the vitamins and minerals that people suggested, but it passed shortly after I got home. Decided to send it to UC Davis for a necropsy and they determined that the cause of death was due to a yolk sac infection. Both E.coli and pseudomonas aeruginosa were found.

Here is part of the necropsy report that shows the bacteria and what drugs they were sensitive/resistant to:

the poor thing Kathy, I see the fish botics and see your house is stocked like mine.

Suggested methods for navels from your perspective/research for fowl in general? anything we can change or add to our suggestions and or treatments?

I have 12 out including the egg yolk chick, and one hatching (external pip), no further external pips that I can see, which would be 10 eggs unhatched. I am not giving up on them, but I dont have high hopes for any more external pips, given the temp spike. 14 hatched, even if 1 dies, is at least better than I expected with the temp spike.

They are adorbs. My stupid ihpone isnt charging, so later today hopefully i can put some pics up. Now im going to make some coffee and go cuddle with the hubs. I have two blue eggs in there, I figured my WL had covered them, and he did...got a little white chick out of the egg that hatched thus far ;)
wow!!!! 12!!! and what of yolkster?

I got distracted and saw that NAPSA: savemyink.com how much I love art and tattoos, I am not sure I would want to keep someones skin on my wall after they pass. but wow does that site have some amazing artwork on it from all over!

now back to updating..... and coffee

Quote: I'm embarrassed to say that my house is has way to many drugs, lol. With peafowl and turkeys, metronidazole is a must.

As for treating the chicks that are susceptible to yolk sac infections, I dip their umbilicus in chlorhexadine if they look a little iffy, and if they look really bad, I start them on Baytril. Problem with Baytril (enrofloxacin) is that it's banned for use in poultry.

6 + 1 x 0 + 2/2
Multiplication and division from left to right, then addition and subtraction from left to right

6 + (1 x 0) + (2/2) = 7

chlorhexidine is in mouth wash and it makes sense with the salts.... hey, they have this at lambert in gallons but can you see if you can find a link online to show everyone that they can purchase this in a bottle NOT mouthwash?

did I mention I missed you Kath
