Yes a country crock dish. Her tummy wasn't completely healed open just a bit and as she had struggled so long was a bit weaker and the older chicks(even a few hours older) wanted to eat her umbilical cord and I was worried they would pull her innards out as it took a while to dry and fall off. Thankfully her belly healed within a couple of hours and the rest was just to be sure BC her little tummy was so distended from her yolk you could almost see it through her skin. Plus as I said she was sticky and they all wanted to eat the membrane she was covered in. So I padded it enough with paper towels the she was safe and could get stuck if she fell over and could peek over the edge and see the others. It was great for her morale but kept her safe and it fit perfectly in the bator so she could dry. When I took her out she was so adorable and strong and wouldn't you know she ran the brooder complete bossy pants. Lol those silkies still just adore her if they walk around the house and she can't see them she cries and cries and they all come running. lol she also wants to be with people and especially loves sitting on shoulders. Not to mention she's always got something to say. She's a hoot and I am so grateful I saved her. Despite the fact that I was home alone and absolutely terrified and in all honesty after I saved her I just sobbed from all the nerves and adrenaline. I checked on her in that crock dish every ten minutes I bet.

If anyone has a similar situation I would definitely recommend trying something like that if you can safely fit the dish in the bator.

I just signed up for this forum today, although I've been lurking around here for awhile just getting information. I am very new to this. I just got my incubator, and it is all set up - perfect temps and humidity. We are just waiting for our eggs to arrive! We are starting out with 12 Ancona Duck eggs. So excited, I can't wait for them to arrive. I just hope they survive the shipping without scrambling.

Some people feed dog or cat food to their chickens to boost the protien of an iffy feed. You can also use Catfish chow... my Guineas werent allowed to free range and since Guinea fowl are heavy buggers I gave them a five to one ratio flock raiser and Catfish. One scoop catfish mixed in with five scoops of feed.

I would scatter some for the chickens too. It looks like pelleted chicken feed. so they couldnt pick it out they all loved it.

I love adding Cow Manna, especially in the winter when their is snow down. No bugs out there for them. Also, and of course, a scrambled egg here and there. I don't throw much manna out, it's pretty good stuff. Only need a small handful a few times a week during the winter. For greens, I do make fodder, and I try spinach. Sometimes a flock likes it, others don't.
What else do you use for green stuff they will eat?
Speaking of fodder, with the snow we are getting, time to start some.

Sally, you are a sweetheart for asking..I am doing much better today. That hit me a lot harder than I would have thought, just so close to home, a good friend that just lives down a block from us. Still waiting to see the exact reason why, and why so fast. Not sure when the funeral is yet.

Here are some photos I took today. Not much snow after all, but it's been snowing off and on. Can't see those mountains! That's a good sign. Snowing up there where we need it.


My main coop at the left, we got most of the tarps up, I want one more on the other side. The little coop on the left is a grow out coop and run. Nothing in there right now. Probably later though. (that hose is staying there, having high 40 degree weather coming up. Can use it until it stays in the 30's in the day. Won't be long now.


I'm talking while taking the photos, they can hear me, and start talking. They aren't
sure they want out though, pretty chilly too..that wind really whipped up later. Bad.




My apple tree, not too bad. It's been covered worse with the leaves on. Love this tree.

If it were me, back in the day, yep! I loved shooting, but I enjoyed shooting the rifles. Hunted a lot back then.
