She keeps sitting with her breast on the food bowl so they don't get cold.
DH said he thought this gal was lonely and wanted to cuddle.

She quieted right down.

LOL My daughter would love to do that. Her favorite person is herself in the mirror. We signed her up for Karate - she spend so much time looking at the mirrors, she couldn't keep up!
I just try to find myself in mirrors

I had one chick, no matter what stuffed animal I put her with, she wouldn't be quiet. I held her for a minute to move her, and she shut up. I couldn't believe it. Her mother had only hatched her, and they were free range. She was 2 days old and the flock got attacked by a red fox. I ran out with my pistol, which is right next to the door, and I killed the fox in one shot, But the one hen he had in his jaws was severely wounded, organs out, screeching, so I snapped her neck. It just had to be the momma hen of the one chick. That chick had a mini chicken diaper hand made for her by me, and stayed with me for 2 weeks, going in the car, going shopping, it was hilarious with the looks people gave me when they saw the chick on my dashboard in my car as we were driving. I love her. She's a RIR and her name is Rose. Still have her, she's almost a year old I think.

TIMELINE of a silky HATCHING!

MONDAY 5 PM noticed external pip

TUESDAY DAY 20 9AM STILL RESTING,
hole slightly larger but chick is NOT zipping!

2 PM TUES. CHICK IS ALREADY OUT!
missed the last quick zipping!
Silky on the left, two CCL hatched at the same time!

ITS IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
THIS CHICK TOOK WELL OVER 24 hours to hatch! and absolutely normal!

One of the most common mistakes new hat hers make is opening the egg early and the chick dying because it wasn't ready. I left my mom home with a hatch, one externally pipped and after two hours she opened it up. Didn't have my phone that day, but I got home to find the chick on a styrofoam plate, as her workable, and her freaking out, trying to figure out online what to do next. Half the yolk was absorbed, I put it under a heat lamp and kept the yolk wet until he fully absorbed it. Sweet little Roo now, gave him to a friend that needed one. He's a buff Orpington. Runs up to you and always wants to be held, even now at 2 years old.
