Gotta have duct tape! I believe it's illegal to build anything w/o copious use of duct tape! It's written right there in the McGyver Handbook
Oh yeah! I used purple designer tape in my build, just to give it a feminine detail! (gotta encourage more pullets to hatch, don't ya know!) Was it Redd Green who said: "if it wiggles too much, use duct tape. If it doesn't wiggle enough, use WD-40!" Was it you who named your bator "McGuyverbator"??? I'm high class all the way, re-furbishing my cattle panel green house! Bought a 14 mil. green house tarp, got me a new package of zip-ties, some carpenters twine (bright orange), some duct tape, and even some electrical tape to cover all the welded ends to keep the tarp from wearing there!

P.S. Got bubble gum and paper clips????????

This made me laugh because I thought the same thing. I just added rainbow Duck tape to put some of my bator together. I was thinking through what might be missing and duct tape was the answer.

Edited to add, I'm working on the tutorial/write up with photos. I won't have hatch rates for a while so once I work out the kinks I'll post the build page and update after hatching.

CAMO, girl; gotta be camo. Can't see it that way.

Tons and tons on hatching and all kinds of stuff on chickens.we are getting a baby potbelly pig later today so that will hold me over till tommorow I hope they start hatching tommorow ...Why do u put them dip in the air cell up,if they role and stuff during hatching.?

Pictures of the potbelly are a must.
Most of the time a chick positions to pip through that dip in the air cell. If that dip is facing down then the chick can drown on the liquid that collects on the bottom. Sometimes chicks get it "wrong" and still make it though. Gotta trust them to know what they are doing and give them the best chance.

Juno's got a girl friend! One of my broody hatched boys has a girl friend! They were hatched Aug 9. He and she hang out together, dust bathe together. So far, Jack does not take exception to the fact that there are 2 up and coming cockrels in his flock. No crowing from them yet, but both of the cockrels are showing their maleness in their behavior. Jack will even still allow the boys to tidbit from him.

The problem with the camo tape and the gray tape is they go quickly around here. I had rainbow, because I thought it was pretty, and so that's what I used. Haha. I'll have to make a camo cover for it so DH doesn't see it when I set eggs. Haha.

I am referring to my bator build as the MacGyver Bator. I'm with you. If we have it we use it. Zip ties are my favorite attachers. Zip ties are much less expensive per tie when you buy them in bulk. I bought my last pack of 1000 from Gemplers for around $20 on sale. That was 6 years ago.

OOOOHHHH! I hadn't considered the invisibility aspect of CAMO duct tape. That just might work, as long as I could get hubby to wear ear plugs when ever he comes into the kitchen, to mask the whir of the fan!

I think I got you beat on the price of bulk zip ties. Problem is, with the multi pack, they put in too many small ones and not enough of the honking big ones. But, there are plenty of discount store options around me for stuff like that.

I edited, but now that I think about it I have no clue how much they were. I don't get the multi packs. I never need the tiny ones, but my kids scatter them.
I put my bator in the spare room, so DH can't hear the fan. ;-)
