Okay wow still working on catching up. Not sure I'll ever be done catching up but it was a long weekend and I've missed so much on here. Firstly BC I missed it I'm 24-turning 25 on 12/28, and I'm in southern WI.

Secondly gimmiebirdies you have got to start breeding those gray layers BC I love them and I think we can all agree that it's a color we need in our egg baskets. Start passing them out. You have to have enough to share with the class. ;)

Thirdly I am praying for you all(and everyone's eggs) so very very much luckily most of all the storms has missed us despite us getting 2 inches of rain day before yesterday. It is however cold and extremely windy today.

Fourthly I got a new layer yesterday has to be one of my other silkie pullets so I'm very excited don't know it it was Mary Anne or Lovey though... And then there's just the one little one left that idk what gender it is. We also have gotten the two largest silver laced wyandotte eggs we've ever had yesterday and I'm dieing to put them in the incubator. I don't think they're double yolkers just some bigger eggs. Considering that the wyandottes started out laying eggs smaller than even my oegb's first eggs, which shocked me. I'm glad to see them increasing in size. I can't wait to try hatching some this spring and my silkie eggs! Also I was supposed to sell most of my silkie hatch too but honestly there's really only one I want to sell. I figured since the 17 eggs we received only cost 30 bucks we could easily regain that selling their chicks. I also have my bantam barred cochin and she is being fertized by either my red/partridge silkie roo or my white one. Would the chicks be sex linked? I know they wouldn't be silkies but it could still be very cool. I can't wait to be able to breed my little show quality black oegbs I'm also hoping to improve on my little self blue oegb but we'll see.

Our eventual plan is to be able to completely or almost completely have a self sustaining flock and also to be able to breed our own meat bird type. That's one thing I'm thinking of my silver laced wyandottes for the rooster we have is probably 16-18 lbs he's massive. It's just up to him if he lives or dies at this point. He came at me last week and I admit I had to kick him, not hard but enough to knock him back he hasn't come at me since but I still don't trust him. He'd already be gone but he's so gorgeous and he's absolutely amazing with the flock, and so gentle with the girls they barely know he's bred them. Ugh. But I'm hoping to integrate an English orp cockeral soon as I've graciously been offered one. But idk what color to get. They have black and blue and a black/lav split. My pullets could potentially carry lavender if I understand correctly as their daddy was split for it. I want to get some lavenders in the spring and then I would only need the one orp roo right? Help?! Lol

It got out on it's own somehow! It's egg was a lump of crumbles and white sack! No clue which one it is! One Ccl egg alive no internals. One Serama external. One Serama alive waiting for internal. Looks like has a day or so yet. Great hatch
I hope I get that many pullets when I order your eggs!

OMG that egg I dropped internally pipped!!! how it did I have no freaking clue!!! I didnt even notice it until I went to upload an image this morning for you all to show what started to hatch! and little lucas and I sat and watched it for about 20 minutes and I thought the thing may have been trying to zip aroung but was not getting footing and was just breaking the shell into bits and pieces so I took the top off the rest of the way and look!!!!!!! where I had dropped the little booger!!! HE IS FINE AND PIPPED!!! and looks like only a bit to absorb and pretty active and chirping. He aint got much shell around him so, pray he finishes up fast like he others! (ps thats NOT is top sitting there, his backside and top was busted to pcs day 18) Anyways..... Hatching has seriously begun I think 14 or so are out, luke counted lol..... even 2 serama have hatched but who knows when hen set on them
Oh yay!!!!! I'm so excited I've been hoping for everyone's little fuzzies but especially the little dropped baby and of course little saved Nancy! So jealous everyone wish I was hatching right now too!

@Sally Sunshine - Lots of cute chicks!

The egg that had a little browning of the membrane still has strong veins along the shell (did a candle while leaving it in the bator) So even if i did help it it wouldn't end great based on my understanding. I will leave this little guy i think he will be fine as long as humidity stays up.

Get ready; you're getting snow tonight...son's in Racine

@kwhites634
Eww! No thank you I respectfully decline the offer of cold wet white stuff lol

Also just wanted to let everyone know that I believe we have decided to wait and receive the eggs we won in the halloween fowl costume contest in March probably as a little extra anniversary gift for us. Which is a bummer about the waiting but it should be warm enough and all my girls mature enough that I think DH2B will let me fill the incubator (fingers crossed).

A few eggs are wiggling now.my temp is a steady 101 to 102...how do I know if humidity is right for hatching???I have two big and one little water tray full.
