morning whats up for today?

Foghorn, my white leghorn roo, is sick and looks like he's gonna die. He has had a "cold" (yes I know chickens don't get colds but we have all kinds of wild birds around here), and it got real cold last night (23), he has coop but no light. In with 14 other chickens. This morning when I fed he looked almost dead, he attacks me constantly and I was able to pick him up without any fight.

I gave him fish mox and put him in a crate inside where it's quiet and warm. I'll see if he makes it.

Any of y'all used fish mox before?
I have a bunch of bottles of it BJ but never used it on chickens. Sorry he is sick sweety, I hope he does well

January 20th isn't even here yet. That is the 'SELL BY' date. That doesn't tell you how old the eggs are. Sell by dates are up to a couple months after eggs were laid.
The Julian date is the date they were packaged. It is a 3 digit number relating to the day of the year. Your eggs should have a number in the 300s on the carton somewhere.
The Julian date will likely be up to 3 days after they were laid.

I know what you mean. The Julian date was 4 days before the date I purchased them, and the sell by date is 4 weeks after the Julian date. The sell by date here is about 4 weeks after the are lain.

Really not sure that Trader Joe or any store in CA could sell "local farm fresh eggs" that were a few months old!

I will check the local regulations!

let us know what you come up with please!

Good morning everyone!

I have a sick CW. She's lethargic, when I picked her up to isolate her she had creamy white poo that came out when I was holding her to check her vent. I had not checked it yet. I put her in a cage with some extra calcium as a just in case but she did lay a small egg that was a bit soft shelled, smaller than normal

I began the DLM a few weeks ago and am using PDZ along with turning it over and misting the top due to dust from the feeder.  My show roo was sneezing when inside.

I am freaked that the Bielefelders could catch something, due to them being in the next coop down.................

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I start them on something? I've seen no sign of worms and they were wormed with Rooster Booster Striker a couple months ago before the real cold set in.

Help would be appreciated greatly!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and one more thing...........I have an eye infection.........doc didn't know what it was so put me on antis and steroid drops.......could we all have the same thing? They do not have runny eyes at all.

White, creamy poop is a sign of dehydration.

Some states may have more restrictive regulations but the USDA controls egg sales.
US regulations for labeling are very lax - much more lax than Europe for example.
The dating on eggs in the US follows these guidelines.

Dating of Cartons
Egg processors typically print dates commonly called "Code Dates" on cartons for purposes of rotating stock or controlling inventory. "EXP," "Sell By," and "Best if Used Before" are examples of terminology used for code dating. Use of code dates on USDA graded eggs is optional; however, if they are used, certain rules must be followed.

If an expiration date is used, it must be printed in month/day format and preceded by the appropriate prefix. "EXP," "Sell By," and "Not to be sold after the date at the end of the carton" are examples of expiration dates. Expiration dates can be no more than 30 days from the day the eggs were packed into the carton.

Another type of code dating used indicates the recommended maximum length of time that the consumer can expect eggs to maintain their quality when stored under ideal conditions. Terminology such as "Use by", "Use before", "Best before" indicates a period that the eggs should be consumed before overall quality diminishes. Code dating using these terms may not exceed 45 days including the day the eggs were packed into the carton.

@sally sunshine
I didn't forget, I lost it!

Wasn't where I left it.

Whoever said whatever about the fishmox, I use it myself, but I hardly get sick anyway.
If it doesn't help after 3 days it's viral anyway, in which case colloidal silver takes care of that.
I have one bottle of colloidal silver labeled just for chickens
