does this mean that y'all are angels too? Oh, I think I know what's going on. Like on the Flintstones where there's a good one on one shoulder and a bad one on the other? So that must mean Sally is the good angel and bubbles is the bad one because she

Hatching experiment #2 - thinking about using a Sharpy pen and covering the entire egg in black. Does anyone know if this experiment has been done before?

SHARPIES on EGGS? Sure! post #10857 & the age old question Can you write on a hatchin egg with sharpie. answer is yes with proof

@casportpony brat did it as well see post above

I don't have high hopes for these Phoenix eggs. I will set them all later tonight and hope.

The ones with arrows are full on rolling air cells, the rest are saddle celled.

They are resting for at least 12 hours, then I will set them and see.

Do humidity recommendations for bantam eggs and saddle cells differ from the regular 35%?

awww bummer!!! start at 35 and just candle from above and add more as you need it. @Saris I would set them now, and let them sit still for three days. candle from the top again and then only side to side turning.
Rooster is out of my shower lol, doing better. Eggs lookin good, I'm on day 13, but turns out I'll be out of town for work all week, so chase will have to handle lock down. Eeek

Good afternoon everyone!
just caught up, again!
Sally, to answer your earlier question, I did check fert and set 12 of my silkies on Dec. 26. fert check 3 random eggs, all good. candle 12 in bator last night, none developing.
somad.gif

Re-checked fert last Sunday (Jan 3) and set an additional 12. at day 4, quick look with candle 9 definite development, 3 questionable, but it is very early.
fl.gif

I also set 8 OE's on the 26th, and looks like 100% development.
I set 12 EE's (Americana hen X Columbian Rock Roo) on Jan 3 as well, quick look last night, all developing!

catch up with you all later!

For those looking for even BETTER supermarket eggs to hatch...this newer vendor, Vital Farms, seems to be a Co Op of small, free ranging, farmers that contribute to the supply. Each chicken gets a minimum of 108 square feet of pasture. I recently found the blue box at Whole Foods. It's the same egg, just with a No GMO stamp on it to boot!

I ams so jealous of all of you!! I can't set eggs till the end of January!!
and why is that? @holm25

On another note...My 12/26 eggs I candled last night. 1 quitter, so 9 going into lock down Monday. Will candle my (24) 1/1 eggs tomorrow. I'm still struggling to know what I'm seeing in the early stages. I think I need a stronger light.

Ok Sally, I changed my notifications.. will see if I like it!
ok @Cynthia12 testing testing 1 2 3

Up and about now. Skimmed the past few hours of posts. Yeah Sally it's plenty of time. I personally wanna live in the middle of nowhere but the husband is a cityboy born and raised and he wants to be near a town. I guess I could always move out near Cibolo TX where my dad's folks live or snag a farm/ranch property in town where we are zoned to have livestock like poultry and goats and things.
me thinks you will end up with critters

@Akrnaf2 ????

Just got a Skype call from my MIL. Dogs are doing great, they were having fun playing with CIL's girlfriend's border collie. House is nice and clean still, just waiting on chicken pics!
awesome!! good news!

Ok so remember how I said that i heard eggs cracking and chirping and my broody was purring but when we got her off the nest there was no chick and there was an egg that was put in the incubator that seemed to be about 16 days along...? I just went to thoroughly clean out the nesting box and had not seen it before but there were a ton of egg shells at the bottom...so does that mean that the one we heard chirping was probably eaten? If I have a homicidal broody I want to make sure I dont use her again!
oh no!!

I have 7 layers and two that should be Starting any day. Does it drive anyone else crazy not knowing who is laying each egg. I wish I could assign them nesting boxes! Lol
nope

sweet candle!
day 2 on the bator trail run, still hold at 100.3 or 4 high, 98.4 to 6 low any thoughts, or let her go the full week, or should I adjust it up a little? Leave it alone and see what happens?
how long is this variance and these are based on calibrated thermos? why is there so much variance?
