Ok I need some backup. How can I justify building a coolerbator to my husband when I just got the one I have for christmas. (the one I got was a gift from my dad not him)
I blame the kids, the have to build one, its a great project

Gotta run everyone!
lunch break over, back to work.

And for all of those that were chatting about temperatures earlier, it is a balmy -14* F here at lunch time today.

baby its cooooold up there!

Omg! I think I see life in a 2nd Phoenix egg. Oh I hope so!
AWESOME!!!!

Well, just candled my eggs. Looks like the Rooster was shooting blanks. :( 5/7 clear and the other 2 are very questionable looking. Plus the two that are questionable are the ones that won't turn. I think I'm going to try and return this Brinsea. It's just not worth the $$. It holds temp great, and looks awesome, but it's got to be perfect for how much it costs and it's not doing it for me.
I would return it if you still can! coolers are so much better!

Here are all the oxytetracycline and tetracyline powders I could find.

Oxytetracyline and Tetracycline Powder Doses

Oxytetracyline

Package weighs 181.5 grams and has 10 grams oxytetracycline.
10 ÷ 181.5 = 0.055, which means it's 5.5% oxytetracycline, 94.5% filler
One gram = 55mg
One teaspoon weighs about 3 grams which = 165mg x 5 teaspoons = 825 mg
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = 5 teaspoons (825mg is close enough)

Oxytetracycline

This package weighs 280 grams
Package contains 102.4 grams oxytetracycline

102.4 / 280 = 0.37 , which means that it's 37% oxytetracycline and 63% filler
370 mg per gram
One teaspoon probably weighs 3 grams, so it's 3 x 370mg = 1110 mg per teaspoon
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = ~3/4 teaspoons

Tetracycline Powder 5.5% (55mg per gram)

Package weighs 181 grams and has 10 grams tetracycline.
10 ÷ 181 = 0.055, which means it's 5.5% tetracycline, 94.5% filler
One gram = 55mg
One tablespoon weighs about 10 grams which = 550 mg
800 ÷ 550 = 1.45 tablespoons
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = 1.5 tablespoons (825mg is close enough)

Oxytetracycline - 343

102.4 / 135.5 = 0.76 , which means that it's 76% oxytetracycline and 24% filler
760 mg per gram
One teaspoon probably weighs 3 grams, so it's 3 x 760mg = 2280 mg per teaspoon
The 800 mg dose for one gallon = ~1/3 slightly rounded teaspoon

-Kathy

You could try the Tetroxy 343 and maybe get lucky. It is meant to be put in the water, but gould also be given orally, though I'd have to look up the dose.

I have the middle bag. Okay so I add it to their water and wait. If I see no improvement I switch to Tylan, I can order it and have it shipped. Sound right? Or is it bad to do it f I'm not sure that it's what they need?

I think it's probably okay to try it. Are they drinking enough water?

Of course it would be best to have a vet or lab advise a treatment plan.

Can you post a picture of your sickest one? Keep in mind that antibiotics won't work if it's a virus.

keep, son but sell at the swap next month

That sounds great! You've got lots of options then
1f604.png

What's your favorite breed?
And what sells good around you where you have something people will want but there aren't 50 others of the same thing at the swap?
Around here, you can't go wrong with nice dual purpose birds. Barred Rocks are a good example- you can find reasonably priced hatching eggs and people like them for layers and for the table.
Then maybe you could also hatch some Silkies or another fun bantam breed or colored egg layer. See what sells the best for you and then hatch more of those
