Sure is quiet at my house. Miss those grand-kids already.

No problem, Seth.
Just make SURE you let those shipped eggs settle @ room temp for at least 24 hrs before you set them, in case the air cells got screwed up in transit. After that, handle them very carefully until you can candle them & see how the air cells look.
I will

That's what I wanted to hear!!! Just thought they were a bit small, but I realize their reproductive systems aren't fully developed... so I was hoping against hope they would produce large or better after awhile. Whew!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Don't you have, or have had, black sex links? If so, do their egg size match the RSL's? I ask because if things go according to plan, I'll be getting some RIR in the spring. Since I'll be keeping some of the BR pullets, I may raise a few BSL to add to my laying house.
I have 3 black sex links. But I also have several other birds that lay brown eggs. I am not sure who lays which eggs, but I do get some that are quite a bit bigger than the others. I was thinking of setting up some type of camera in the coop to see if I can figure out who is laying what.

Thought i'd chime in- I have BSL hens and have been more than thrilled with them! Very good layers, and all of mine lay large eggs. Each of them have their own egg color, (varying shades of brown) and one lays an egg that maybe could almost pass as a BCM. They have a beautiful sheen on their feathers, and are not flighty. They are one of the calmest breeds I have and enjoy attention. They will also do ANYTHING for food, so if you happened to want to teach them some tricks, i'm sure they would learn quick! :lau
They seemed to have learned what the treat container looks like real fast....

No, the RSL's are all I've ever had, except a few BR's several years ago. If you're looking for egg production, you'll be better off with the RSL than the RIR, or so I've read. I hear the RIR roosters tend toward aggressiveness with people. It's not at all uncommon for us to get an egg that prevents closing the top on a large carton.
Here's what I've learned (or claim to have learned) about RIR:

Most RIR on the market are production-type birds, with smaller bodies, higher egg production, and less feed consumption. The PRIR are excellent layers, but have lousy dispositions. The "heritage" RIR are much calmer, and while they may not lay quite as frequently as PRIR, they will lay years longer. They are also a much better choice for dual-purpose birds if eggs and meat is desired. If higher egg production is desirable, crossing an RIR rooster with an RIW (and a few other) hen produces RSL chicks. I can't explain why, but I've always been fascinated with Heritage RIR. There was a time when they were the most popular birds in America, and they are making a bit of a comeback. A purebred RIR isn't real flashy or colorful, and it's built a little differently than other birds... but you know exactly what it is the moment you lay eyes on it. They're similar to the short-backed, tail up at 45-90 degrees PRIR in that both types have feathers. I hope to let you know how they behave from personal experience later this year.

You sure your elevator goes to the top floor?

Elevator quit years ago. I have to use the stairs these days...

It took three posts to make me grin, and you didn't even say anything. Something very wrong with me!

Be back in a bit....gotta figure out where Patton PA is

Look in the middle of the Pennsylvania map. It is right by Altoona. If you see Clearfield or State College, you aren't too far off.
