I'm thinking I'll go by the UPS store & get a shipping tube; probably cheaper than USPS, anyway.

PM me with your name & address to take with me; can probably take care of everything in one trip.

Getting plowed out today; loader's on the way  :celebrate  :weee  :ya :)   :woot   :yesss:

If you go with usps, may I recommend the three sided mailing tube they have for priority. I use them to ship macaw feathers. Best way that I've found......

Do you know what the temperature differential is? Degrees between set point and "turn on" temp and is differential adjustable?

Well, it should most definitely be able to run a pair of 60's....... I guess I'm not sure where to go now.
I use these

Good morning everyone! I think I came up with the answer for my ridiculous blowing light bulb issue. Since everything was right on my end I'm gonna guess that the box either got impacted during transit or dropped off of the shelf. One of the bulbs did not work at all and two of them blew out within 24 hours. After sally sunshine asked if they flew into it, I was a little paranoid about the birds flying into the fixture and knocking it around so I bought 2 rough service bulbs and hopefully they're better. I shall see. But in summary I bought a pack of bad bulbs

.
Are the bulbs for heat or light?
If for heat is it for incubator or brooder?

LEDs and CFLs are better for light (less electric cost)
For brooder heat I use ceramic emitters. They last longer and if they break, they don't get glass all over. You can get them from 25-250 watt. I use 150s.

For incubators I use metallic elements.

MAKE SURE THOSE ROUGH SERVICE LIGHTS ARE NOT TOXIC TO BIRDS!

Also, stay away from Halogens
Teflon coated rough service give off hazardous fumes.

Do you use to caponize your roosters?
I have never did it but the people that do oractice it, saye that the rooster is meatier and much more thender!
Here how they do it in China!

They make it look SO easy! Supposedly the (ex) cockerels get all chunky and become Mr. Moms...and stop crowing!

I tried making capons once. It was a dismal experience. The ones that survived developed excess air under the skin and blew up like balloons. You could shake them and their little bodies rattled inside. (And, yes, you prick the skin and the air escapes.....) The bodies were bigger, but the scar was unappealing on a dressed bird. Really, not worth it IMHO.

You can make a little cave with the heating pad, just make a frame for it and lay it over top.

I put mines in a trash bag to keep poopy shtuffs off'n it.

You want the cave height to be just above their back.

Will save you some money on the light bill
thanks I actually found blooie and aart's threads on that this morning. I need to do that. I was thinking of just using a box and putting the pads you heat in the microwave under a towel since I have one. I have been using one outside even down to the teens under a quart waterer in the juniors pen and it stays thawed from when I put it out by 5 am and the water is still thawed 13+ hours later when I get home.

LOVE the talk about accents. I was up in Calgary once and the diner waitress pegged that I was from CA....claimed I had a California twang. Who knew? Nowadays, though, people think I'm from the South as I've gotten a little slow in speech and sometimes slip a "re-tar" for "retire" and "fi-yar" for "fire"

In my previous life I took down the testimony of a lot of people and developed an ear for ciphering through the various accents, which meant that I got called out for every Nigerian doctor that had to give a deposition. I took a real-time screen with me that put the testimony on a laptop so folks could read what was being said as it sure was hard to hear. That, and I worked in a ghetto courtroom where people were "axing" their mothers all the time. I probably had the best Eubonics translating dictionary ever!
