I'm thinking I'll go by the UPS store & get a shipping tube; probably cheaper than USPS, anyway.
PM me with your name & address to take with me; can probably take care of everything in one trip.
Getting plowed out today; loader's on the way![]()

Are the bulbs for heat or light?![]()
Good morning everyone! I think I came up with the answer for my ridiculous blowing light bulb issue. Since everything was right on my end I'm gonna guess that the box either got impacted during transit or dropped off of the shelf. One of the bulbs did not work at all and two of them blew out within 24 hours. After sally sunshine asked if they flew into it, I was a little paranoid about the birds flying into the fixture and knocking it around so I bought 2 rough service bulbs and hopefully they're better. I shall see. But in summary I bought a pack of bad bulbs.![]()
Teflon coated rough service give off hazardous fumes.MAKE SURE THOSE ROUGH SERVICE LIGHTS ARE NOT TOXIC TO BIRDS!

Do you use to caponize your roosters?
I have never did it but the people that do oractice it, saye that the rooster is meatier and much more thender!
Here how they do it in China!
thanks I actually found blooie and aart's threads on that this morning. I need to do that. I was thinking of just using a box and putting the pads you heat in the microwave under a towel since I have one. I have been using one outside even down to the teens under a quart waterer in the juniors pen and it stays thawed from when I put it out by 5 am and the water is still thawed 13+ hours later when I get home. You can make a little cave with the heating pad, just make a frame for it and lay it over top.
I put mines in a trash bag to keep poopy shtuffs off'n it.
You want the cave height to be just above their back.
Will save you some money on the light bill

If for heat is it for incubator or brooder?
LEDs and CFLs are better for light (less electric cost)
For brooder heat I use ceramic emitters. They last longer and if they break, they don't get glass all over. You can get them from 25-250 watt. I use 150s.

For incubators I use metallic elements.

They make it look SO easy! Supposedly the (ex) cockerels get all chunky and become Mr. Moms...and stop crowing!
I tried making capons once. It was a dismal experience. The ones that survived developed excess air under the skin and blew up like balloons. You could shake them and their little bodies rattled inside. (And, yes, you prick the skin and the air escapes.....) The bodies were bigger, but the scar was unappealing on a dressed bird. Really, not worth it IMHO.
