Morning everyone. Off to hobble through chores and opening coops. Be back in awhile.
@Sally Sunshine . The vet thinkscI was right that it is a mycoplasma. She took a blood sample from my sick roo. And she told me to put pour on or motor oil on the lame hens foot. Go figure.
I love a vet who doesn't mind prescribing home remedies, rather than charging both arms & a leg for some fancy schmancy medication that does the same thing. I had a vet like that once. He campaigned dogs too, and understood how expensive it was to be carrying dogs to the vet when I may have 5 or 6 dogs at once.

mornin whites :hugs mornin bubbles dear :hugs whatcha got planned for today?
Mornin Sunshine. :hugs
Duckling is awake. I need to get the animals tended before she demands to get up. Though this usually takes a while. Love that kid!

I understand why breeders of heritage RIR are reluctant to allow someone to cross strains. Some breeders spend many years, often decades, breeding the best SOP birds. This is most times accomplished by very strict line breeding, and only when absolutely necessary, will they ever cross strains. Adding fresh blood can be a double-edged sword... it can replace bad genes and give a higher quality of bird... or it can bring out bad genes that can take 5 or more years to remove from the offspring. If I worked decades to perfect my line, I would want the line continued through the people I sold my birds to. Of course, a dollar is a dollar when it comes to selling chickens, but with true breeders of heritage birds, it's often more about pride than money. That said... if you want to hatch your own eggs you should check with cmom, usually found on the Heritage RIR thread. Here's her website if you want to check out her birds and put your name on the mailing list here: http://www.hilltop-farm.info/eggs

I hope everyone is having a great day. Sorry I can't stay... just popping in to say...

Got my eggs ready for lock down. While I was drawing the line, saw something for the first time since I started hatching yrs. ago! The head and the beak! Soo cute, got one with a couple of toes showing too, they look fluffy. They should be! :) Click on the photos to see it better, that little one even open and closed it's beak while I was watching. Pretty cool for me, being a first.

Here are the three, air sacs look good. :)

It,looks kinda like this, but no veins and clear at pointed end.

Ok here are the air cells for my day 18 Marans. All look pretty much like this.

I've run the Brinsea with no water the entire time. It's been in the 32-50 range dependent on the humidity in the house.

I can't believe how much I've missed since yesterday early evening on the thread! I've got to go get caught up now... :)
