Sally Sunshine

Today at 12:57 pm

18 how many eggs hatched out alive?
24 how many fertile eggs were in the bator?

Percent Hatchability is the percentage of fertile eggs which actually hatched out as live young.
% Hatchability = # of eggs which hatch out
# of fertile eggs

what that line means is you have to divide the 18 by the 24 = 75% Hatch rate

not bad! not bad at all

Tylan

This is what I have found so far:

Quote:
CRD indications:

  • Administer medicated drinking water for three days; however, medicated water may be administered for one to five days depending upon severity of infection. Treated chickens must consume enough medicated water to provide 50 mg per pound of body weight per day. Only medicated water should be available to the birds.
Turkeys:

  • Administer medicated drinking water for three days; however, medicated water may be administered for two to five days depending upon severity of infection. Treated turkeys must consume enough medicated water to provide 60 mg per pound of body weight per day. Only medicated water should be available to the birds.

For those that don't have a gram scale, you can use this info to calculate your dose:

And this for the injectable:

@casportpony
Do you have a weight/breed chart for Tylan dosages
Injectable?

I am trying to learn and looking at https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1052271/anyone-here-good-at-math-math-and-medications

Okay so for the meds, just to clarify.

Tylan 200 is 0.125 ml per pound twice a day

or

Tylan 50 is 0.5 ml per pound twice a day

I did ask my vet before you suggested safeguard if Wazine would interact with the three on Tylan and she said it would not be a problem.

Quote: Tylan Powder is meant to be put in water, and from what I just read, injectable Tylan 50 is water soluble.

@casportpony
Tylan liquid should be administered with a 22 gage needle correct? One that says 22ga x 3/4" would be good right?

and if I want to use denagard in their water would using both at the same time be a bad idea or would it be okay to double up like that?

my last ditch effort to clear the runny noses of my two birds in quarantine.....

Quote: You give it orally at 57 mg per pound twice a day.

You're still early. Could be that the other breed hatches later. On average, if I set 24 eggs, 12-15 will hatch on day 20-21, then I will get 3-5 more over days 22 and 23. I don't normally start getting chicks with issues until late day 23. I don't even candle them any more. I look at it like if they haven't hatched by then, they weren't meant to hatch

Yeah I think if they dont hatch after day 24 ill just toss them...I would rather not have to deal with culling and stuff.
