Ok, I had such high hopes at how goos the eggs looked that went in to lockdown, but at the end of day 22 not 1 single pip. Temp (99.5) and humidity (65 - 75) are steady. What could I have done to kill 20 eggs?

So sorry... I know that they ( fluoroquinolones ) can cause some serious problems in young dogs, so perhaps the same is true in people?

From my earlier post (just cutting and pasting):

I'm sorry this happened to you. I don't know the details of your disability, but I do know that use of fluoroquinolones is not recommended in pediatric patients (including growing teenagers) - it is not that there is anything horrible or sinister about fluoroquinolones, it is that chemically they have high penetration into bone, and therefore interfere with bone development in anyone still growing. They are great for very ill adults (no longer growing) with serious respiratory infections, when used judiciously.

I don't know details of animal studies, but I'd extrapolate and not use it on a chick or a chicken still growing if I had another option. An adult bird would be another story (my Dumbledore, adult rooster, got Baytril after his dog attack).

(This is my work/specialty, at least the human stuff.)

Since you asked...

Edit to add: I see you used it on a pea chick. I know bird bones are really different than ours - if you were working with an avian vet, I bet there's not the same effect. Doesn't surprise me that there is an issue with young dogs...

Quote: Many vets don't want to see one bird, then prescribe drugs for an entire flock until they get to know the client. My vet was like that at first, but now that I've been there a few times she'll write scripts and trust that I'll use them accordingly.

Holy Cow, the last 3 days have been crazy!

So this hatch is complete and I ended with an 82.7% hatch rate based on what went into lockdown and 72% for overall set!

Here is the fluff outcome!

:/ :yesss: thank you just keep them all upright :weee :goodpost: SymptomsProbable CauseCorrective Measures

Pipped eggs, but died without hatchingInsufficient moistureIncrease humidity (wet-bulb temperature) during the hatching period.Improper ventilationIncrease ventilation rate in incubator and/or room, but avoid drafts.Improper setting of eggs causing malpositioned embryosSet eggs with small end down. Turn eggs properly but avoid turning within 3 days of hatching. c chick looks big, what did the back look like, feathering? congrats!!!! yours is prettier than mine!!
I have them in the egg turner small end down , then i lay the carefully in the lockdown incubator, should i keep them upright? I know my humidity has not steady for a few days now , i did however open both the vents and that did cause a lower humidity so i plugged one in and it leveled out should i keep both undone , last hatch i kept them both plugged in the whole time

One of my silkies has gone broody again. She just raised her first babies back in November. Guess I'll be setting more eggs (like I really needed a reason)
sweet!!

So sorry... I know that they ( fluoroquinolones ) can cause some serious problems in young dogs, so perhaps the same is true in people? Here is an example of how well it can work:
My my first ever sinus infection. Chick weight - 800 grams. Gave 0.16ml of 10% Baytril IM.

Have my first URI in a peachick. Here it is at 9 am:

Four hours later:

Here he is 8 hours later. Note that I have not wiped his face.

28 hours later - still some swelling that is hard to see in pictures and some clear drainage from nostril. Up five grams, which is not enough, but it's better than a loss.

Chick was 100% after just two shots, but gave two more per the recommendation of a vet. -Kathy
Wow thats awesome great pics im glad he/she is better
