Bacteria shouldn't be a problem in the 'bator following a cleaning with a clorox/water solution. Bacteria on the eggs is another matter. I believe Sally's notes address that; not positive, but I think I remember seeing it.
Thanks, I'm going to try a wash on all eggs now - they have been clean. Everyone washes hands etc. Pennies in the water (1960's).

On a better note. My 3 month old babies got a door to go outside, and a small temporary run built until we can get the full run done. They got to play in the big hens run, while we were working in theirs. Big girls had to stay in their smaller coop.

The baby silkies got to go outside as well. They could walk right through the fencing, so they really weren't penned in, but they didn't wander far.

The white one is a roo. Rest should be hens. They are getting big!!!

This is the new run. Not huge, but it lets them go outside!

Fluffy Silkies!!!

We keep ours freshest to the right.. So None of these pictures is correct. You use them up from left to right!
I said "D". Until Sally said that that's the way they fall and you break them.... And then I remembered.

its not funny, I have a fever all day and sore throat. I could really use it tonight, medicinal purposes of course.
thats ok, I am going to sleep soon anyways
So sorry you don't feel well. Sleep well.

Whenever you wake up/feel better, here's the update on those huge air cells of mine on the shipped eggs. After 48 hours at 50% humidity, minimal increase in air cells (there were a few where it seems I missed a "tongue" of a saddle last candle, but I don't think is new). For some there was no increase. I took photos, but there's not much to see, barely any increase for most. As they seem (to my inexperienced eyes) to be about 18-day size, I'm assuming I just keep at 50% now through lock down, and lock down at 65%. Any reason to increase humidity to 55%? (Let me know if I'm wrong!) @Sally Sunshine

Anyone who has treated splay leg: I have a chick with moderate splay. Hobbled him with VetRap as soon as dry. He's doing great, getting around well (including to food and water) with the hobble on. How long should I leave it on? I was thinking four days... But can't remember why I'm thinking that.

In other news, I have an egg eater.

I know who it is (caught her with egg on her beak). She's young, and they're cooped in the coop learning their new home, so I'm not jumping right to culling like some folks say. So I am adding more calcium (though eggs are already strong from that coop), added a mealworm and sunflower seed treat cake, and just spent some quality time blowing out eggs and using a syringe to fill them with mustard.
