it will start to dip down good in the front, yes, and you sometimes can see the chick sticking up inside at the upper back high part of the air cell....  did I put the video in that link to show you a candle?

Yes, I got it now... I think.... Thanks!!!
So should I just candle the live one today, and do the rest tomorrow?

God is so faithful! It amazes me how often we have to come to the end of ourselves. I was so frustrated this afternoon that I just threw up my hands and said ok lord I don't know what else to do cuz I can't afford to process him and I won't get anything with him limping at the sale barn and he's not going to get in the trailer the way he is what do I do. About 2 hours after that I got a phone call from a friend who heard from another friend I just wanted $100 for the hog and I happened to owe her $100 on a goat so she's going send the processors who come kill and haul to get hog and we're even and it's awesome. Thank you Father!
Amen Dax so happy for you, so needed a break!

Today is day one and hope to add some more eggs here in a few days and until then I am trying to get one of my hens to go broody
what are you doing to make her go broody? got secrets?

Ahhh. I'm only halfway through the incubation and I'm going stir crazy. I'm considering converting an old dresser into a large incubator. We have tons of materials, so the main cost would be the thermostat and probably a motor and timer (unless I can find more scrap stuff). That would keep me busy and increase the egg capacity. It would be my own version of a sportsman, which I cannot afford.

Thanks Chicken Canoe for the perspective on temp fluctuations.

Would an old oven heating element be too risky? I have plenty of light sockets and bulbs, but there's a scrap furnace and stove in my barn. Talk some sense into me.

Oven elements usually only fire on 220-240 VAC

Regular plugs are 110-120 VAC
