Ahhh. I'm only halfway through the incubation and I'm going stir crazy. I'm considering converting an old dresser into a large incubator. We have tons of materials, so the main cost would be the thermostat and probably a motor and timer (unless I can find more scrap stuff). That would keep me busy and increase the egg capacity. It would be my own version of a sportsman, which I cannot afford.

Would an old oven heating element be too risky? I have plenty of light sockets and bulbs, but there's a scrap furnace and stove in my barn. Talk some sense into me.

Oven elements usually only fire on 220-240 VAC

Regular plugs are 110-120 VAC

As for talking sense into you cant help

I can wire sockets then. I'll have to check out the elements I have around here, but you're right about the likely plug issue.

I expect you to convince me that more chickens is a good idea, but talk me out of the diy incubator with an oven heating element. I'm worried about creating a fire risk.
