I'm not usually an advocate of poison but are you allowed to go that route?
Thanks.
No, I won't do that. With me, has to be a clean kill or nothing.

Sooooo.....Here's why I haven't been on here in awhile....

Finally got pictures of the darn cat. Bad part is, I'm not working fast enough to keep ahead of this problem and he tore up Tobin's porcelain d'Uccle pen and ate every bird!

It's taken me awhile to feel like posting this news on here. I off and on have a USDA sniper camping out on a rooftop next to the pens so I can sleep, I have a lion trap set, and I'm trying to get my husband to agree to taking up the offer of an Anatolian to guard at night. The Dobermans are great during the day, but this cat is very wiley and tip toes in when everybody is asleep. I did not hear a thing when he killed Tobin's birds. I think I had gotten too sleep deprived and actually went to sleep with both ears and both eyes closed for a few hours....As it stands now, we caught sight of him a few nights ago, he had been climbing all over one of the Sebright pens..couldn't get a clear shot, so fired anyways just to scare him. I have not seen him since. Don't know how long before he'll be back. That's why I'm opting for a night dog. I need to sleep better and worry less. Can't watch all the time and can't watch the entire ranch.

That's what I've been doing! Also husband goes for radiation treatments every other day, but will be done with that next week.
I am trying terribly to find some replacement d'Uccles for Tobin....We will be getting some eggs from wonderful people who bought and hatched eggs from our birds. So eventually he will have some of his own bloodlines back. And one egg from the dead birds is in the incubator. They had just started laying and that' was the first fertile egg....If anybody knows any adults for sale please let me know.

to all
Sounds like the cat's days are numbered; sure hope you can finally nail her soon, before she has a chance to have supper on your dime again...that really sucks.

Update: Eggtopsy of the Serama eggs showed that the humidity was too high. I'm not sure how that's possible since I used the humidity pump with my Brinsea, and the highest it got was 38% during the last few days before lockdown. The 3 I eggtopsied were also turned wrong to pip. Maybe they were too big to to turn because of the humidity? The three that did hatch seem healthy and happy. I'm getting some eggs from a local farm that has AMAZING Seramas here soon. Hopefully I'll have better luck with them, and I guess I'll lower the humidity. As this point I feel like I might as well just completely dry hatch. I also did an eggtopsy on one of the Muscovy eggs. The humidity was still too high with this batch I guess. One of my Muscovy hens finally laid another egg today, and hopefully she'll keep laying for a bit. The duckling that hatched absolutely hates me. It won't let me near it, and if I do catch it, it bites me over and over again. I thought I'd try to cuddle it and make it love me, but it just kept biting me.

I also currently have some Cochins hatching. One has hatched and 4 pipped at last count. I really need to get some good quality Cochins to add to my flock because I was looking mine over, and most of them don't meet the standard for a Bantam Cochin.

Wow, that's scary! I'm so sorry for your losses :( Hope you get that taken care of soon.
Congrats! Pictures? -Kathy
4 already went to their new home this morning and a couple more will tomorrow. I'll try to get some shots from the brooder later on tonight ;)

Thanks guys. The eggs have been dipped in a warm bleach water solution let sit a minute and wiped each with a separate paper towel. Cabinet Bator sprayed with bleach solution egg trays replaced, and eggs returned. Now we just have to hope it does not reduce the hatch too much. My vet will cull my favorite and the two roosters. I just don't want to.
Hope everyone else is having a good day. I have had enough, and am headed out to escape on my horse for a while.

I will try to catch up later.
If I get it again which is highly likely unless I do caged birds without exposure to rodents and wild birds since so many carry it here not to mention people and poultry I just won't test. My vet says cull the ones with big symptoms, band sneezers, and breed the ones that don't show symptoms.
For anyone who gets outside eggs, and
@BantyChooks suggested for any eggs from your birds dip in warm bleach water (1/4 of suggested kitchen mix listed on bottle) let sit for a minute and wipe each egg with a separate paper towel piece.
When I here from the expert on mycoplasma research at NC vet, I will pass on what I learn.
