I want roos for making Sapphires with leghorns and EE with RIR so egg color is crucial.
I feel so guilty right now with yall talking about the legbars, I know I should have sold the roos I processed but its part of the breeding game. lol

@Sally Sunshine Hi beautiful, just wanted to stop in & say "Hi" Sorry I missed you yesterday, but I hear your lungs are still not doing well. Praying you get better real soon Hun :love :hugs

I don't have a great answer for you - unfortunately, the Rees line got so "trendy" that a lot of folks started having it for consumer demand, so to speak. It would be breeders who have been working with CLs here in the US for a while (since the Rees line is more recent). I'd ask over on the Cream Legbar thread... Sally has Cream Legbars - and has lots of experience with them (a lot more than me! I read a lot and just have opinions!!!

). Perhaps she can comment about her birds and CLs in general from her more experienced perspective. @Sally Sunshine

Please don't get me wrong - Rees birds are nice. I've just read too many posts by folks who got the Rees birds and then posted with disappointment about the auto sexing or, later, the egg color. It's just something that needs work to maintain. Same with Marans - known to lay deep brown eggs, but if the breeder does not select for that intentionally, you end up with Marans that lay much lighter eggs. (Just like any breed, really...)

Sorry everyone. I did NOT intend to highjack the thread with CL talk...

I am just learning and Rees was the big name, but I really just want a couple of roosters with good dtron blue egg genes. I will be cross breeding.
I love Sally's project, and would like a few.
Thanks
Night all!
@venymae do you have any pics of the F2 project egg bird hatch?

Oh, I would LOVE to have some of Sally's project hatching eggs. But too many chicks here at the moment and more on the way. Maybe another year.

I'm heading to bed as well - good night!

I have had legbar for some time now, I am so sick of hearing Reese Reese lmao I started with Greenfire imports, and added from mdmwlf reese line and added back with more greenfire. I will never tell anyone what LINES my birds come from, because after I purchased them and bred them they are now my lines because and I also look at every egg or chick I buy in the same way, the original breeders have no control over what anyone breeds and culls or if they cull for cash like most have done with the legbar. I must admit, it takes a long time to get the flock you want, and the legbar looks are well disputed. The new REESE line look of GFF is so different than many of the UK legbar too. the colors cream legbar gold all that stuff is so debated over its annoying. The chicks have gone from $45. day old pullet to nothing in no time and even then I thought the price was nuts and I charged much cheaper. Everyone has legbar at this point, When purchasing birds, its important to not look at the name of the lines the bird comes from, most people have no clue about breeding quality flocks, and most times its for money, you need to look at the parent flock and see the quality your buying from, and know that you will need to make culls, and many of them. I cant tell you how many brahma legbar spanish projects, and serama we have eaten or sold already.

@Sally Sunshine On your cabinet bator why did you feel the need to add the air flow return thingy on the back? Is that because it was so tall or was it something you saw somewhere? I've looked at cabinet incubator pics and it doesn't seem like the commercial ones have something like that. To me it just looks like the fan pulls in incubator air from were ever it wants. Although I did see a couple homemade things that the fan was just pulling in outside temp air.
