Good morning. :caf
It's going to be another long day. Trying my hand at wiring the thermostat and light bulbs today. If that works out I'll get the fans wired. The replacement motor arrives tomorrow and the egg trays arrive Monday. :fl
One of my Brabanter hens has been missing at lockup for two nights. She is a tough cookie, but also mostly blind so I'm not sure whether she is able to find food and water. :fl
I have three promising eggs left out of 18. I have been putting in eggs from my flock to test fertility and either the cockerel is infertile or the fluffiness is getting in the way. When I open eggs they look fertile. I've seen him doing the deed. I guess time will tell. :fl

Chickens are not for the faint of heart. :hugs to all.

Sally, I will need a break from wiring so I'll try finishing up the article about the aquarium MacGyverbator. I'll also start an article about this new yet-to-be named incubator build. The good thing about the microwave turner not having enough torque is that I will have two functioning (hopefully) incubators. One for larger batches and no watching the hatch. One for smaller more observable hatches. Although nothing is truly set in stone yet.

My hatch is finished finally (I think). Ended up with 30 chicks. Set 33 eggs total, pulled one on day 7, one looked like a quitter on day 18 that I left in just in case(green one) which did not develop any further, and one that looks like it failed to make the internal pip which I've had problems with that specific hen's eggs before (I think they're just too big). So the end result is 30/33 total which is definitely my best hatch to date @ about 91%! Super exciting! Well here they are:

I put 290 eggs into lockdown Tues evening and the first one was out last night, had about 20 out (and one turkey poult) when I left for work this morning. I have been sneaking my hand in to remove egg shells and try to move the eggs so they aren't stacked in a way that a pipped egg is under another one.

I expected a few less to make it to lockdown when I initially loaded these into the incubators. I guess that is a good thing, but now I REALLY need to work on a new hatcher. I have some boards cut and sanded, need to paint them next. It's do much easier to paint them in the garage when the temps are warm enough.

is there a specific type of paint you use? I was considering a few coats of polyurethane. I just haven't looked into the pros and cons of oil based vs. water based and the risks of chemicals in an incubator.

Wow! That's excellent!
Thank you! I hope you find your hen

Awesome job.

I just heard the eggs in lockdown that we had to wash at day 8 are a day late with no pips. This would be icing on the cake of bad stuff. 3 ccl, 8 EE and 7 Swedish flower hens
