Morning everyone I am sorry I have not been on but to share bad news I just worked 65 hours M-F and am dealing with dying chicks. The death count is up to 15 with another Welsummer pullet looking bad. I have them on Purina medicated starter, I had save a chick in the water and a bit of sugar. Last night I added ACV to the other two things in the water and in the water I made this morning I added corrid. Her is the splayed out chick that looks next. I dipped her beam and she drank. Then I set her down and she drank a bit more before sprawling wings out again under the light. Any suggestions?? Yes I know the food is all over. She is right beside it, and I just cleaned it all up and changed the towels last night before I went to bed messy buggers.

Some good news. Two EE have hatched and we have pips on the Rees ccl eggs. Maybe they will hatch for my birthday and not die like my chickies.

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you get some good input for more experienced folks soon. I do know that Cocci is something that kills large groups of chicks quickly, so glad you have Corid on board - you may wish to use the highest dose, as if this is it, it is severe. Make sure that they are drinking the medicated water (you may need to help, holding and dipping beak as you have been, frequently so you know they are getting the medicine - probably safer than a syringe so they don't aspirate unless you're better at that than I am). Medicated feed won't necessarily prevent it - I almost lost my Speckled Sussex to cocci, used highest dose for a while. They pulled through, but it was touch and go for a couple days. They had been on medicated feed.

Could this be mycoplasma? I know you had an issue, and tried to protect these chick, but am wondering if they had it through the eggs or got exposed. (Or am I confusing your groups of chicks and where you are with that?)

they all would lay limply yes, one other did the splayed wings.

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you get some good input for more experienced folks soon. These chicks came from a npip amd certified mycoplasma free hatchery and were dying as soon as they arrived. They are in the house in a new tupper. All the others are gone except the ones that were upstairs from hatch, and I washed used antibacterial etc. before dealing with them no symptoms. They moved out to a coop that had not been used since fall days before these came. I have not even gone near the contaminated coop. I am waiting the full two weeks before I clean and spray.
