@Sally Sunshine & everybody who can help!!

Of my 24 eggs I set only 6 are fertile and showing development. 18 are clear!

They all arrived well packaged on next day delivery so we're not in the post in too long. Only 1 maybe 2 had slightly saddle air cells and I mean slight.

Day seven candling has been a total let down

Only 4 of the Columbian black tails and 2 of the pekin are developing. The rest are clear including all 6 orpingtons.

Before I send an email to the breeder I would appreciate your thoughts if you think this is a fertility issue. I'm sure it has to be as the eggs were in good shape.

Thanks!
It's Sunday morning here, and I'm in the midst of catching up with the overnight posts, so perhaps someone has already addressed your issue & I haven't seen it yet.
Given that the eggs were all at least 9 or ten days old when you candled them, can't think of any other problem than infertility. Perhaps one of the other folks can come up with another possibility. I hope you're able to get the issue resolved, whatever the reason.

Goodnight everyone! I'm tired... Had a sheep give birth in to middle of the rain and storm, and I think one of the lambs has some sort of mental problem. Acting really strange. Poor lambs were put in the shed in a pen with mom and under a heat lamp. They are doing so much better. We have plastic barrels we cut a door out of and hung heat lamps in, and lambs love it because it's so warm inside!
You just gave me an idea! Imagine me having an idea at this time of day! Simply amazing is what it is.

Is there any reason for not cutting one of those plastic barrels top-to-bottom and using it as a brooder in an area of the run where it could be fenced in so the older birds can't get to them? Just a thought...I hope someone will weigh in & tell me if I'm all wet.

I actually had the same idea! I think it will work great!!

My thought was to just put a piece of wire over the opening, but thinking about it, it would be - at this moment in my head anyway- better and easier to simply cut the door on three sides and cut out a window to put screen in. That would make a permanent door. I hope that made sense!

I'm having trouble visualizing the whole thing... Like a blue 55g plastic barrel, or like the clear 275g plastic cube container... IDK I think I'll let someone make one then look at the picture lol

I only have the blue barrels, so that is what I would use. I am envisioning something like one of those dog igloos or calf huts ( which people actually use both for brooding).
