Still just peeping.
Let me share a story with you... In 2014, a BYC friend of mine sent me 6 peafowl eggs from PA. They weren't the normal blue color of peafowl, they were a mix of pieds, black shoulder, whites and silver pieds, so they very special to me. I incubated them very carefully and 5 of the six made it to day 24. Can you imagine how sick and stupid I felt when I dropped one while candling it on day 24? Cracks everywhere, blood oozing from all the cracks. Had no one to blame except for myself. Keep that in mind the next time you get the urge to mess with the egg.

Thank you! I'm hoping it's something simple causing it. It's extremely strange. The brace will at least help in the meantime to hold me straight.
I hope you heal quickly. When I think of my friend and hear those of you who struggle physically all the time it makes me extremely grateful that the worst I have to do is fight my weight, oh and wear this stupid ankle brace a bit longer. You know your starting to age when you are still wearing a brace seven weeks after a sprain.

You can never have enough ;)
I love it :love

I've had fabulous hatches with it and it's totally set and forget. Does it have the cool down feature on the one you have? It's good at replicating the hen leaving the nest which is an added bonus. It's been well worth the extra money I paid for it.

Honestly, I haven't really checked it out yet. I'm probably digging it out later on this evening to set it up and get it going. I'll be putting eggs in it on Friday. We'll see how it does.

I'm too busy to stay on.....running errands....but my Drs appointment went well....in fact I can go 6 months this time yay!!!!
6 MONTHS WOW!!!! I am impressed!! your doing something right!!!

200+ posts? Holy smokies! (ooh, did I have to say 'smokes?).... Don't you people have eggs to hatch or sumpthin'?

@flocktastic I'll add my prayers to the others for your little girl. Our little Ashley was diagonosed with leukemia a year ago January when she was 6 years old....I know how difficult it is to wrap your head around.

Okay, I'm going back to real life now....Gotta figure out why this incubator has 3 thermometers in it and shows 3 different temperatures. Eggs due to be shipped this week.
did you calibrate yet? @Blooie

Good morning! Thanks for the coffee - now if I could have cig with it I'd be much happier!

The glass therm that came with the Brinsea 20 Eco has the mercury (or whatever that stuff is) separated at the high end so it's hard to read. Tried to follow someone's instructions and fix it, but didn't work. Helped a lot, but not enough. The other therm is a probe type and it was calibrated using the ice water method. The last one is a wireless digital and I really don't want to stick it in water....

So I'll just try to come up with an average temp and go from there, I guess. Humidity hasn't been an issue at all....holds very steady at 32%. I know that will fluctuate once the eggs go in, but if it holds this well empty I'm hoping that it will rebound and steady out as the eggs go in and I make small additions to the water well.
you were a smoker? oh the shame !! lol

I have a question for those who raise their chickens for eggs and meat. I had a fairly unsuccessful hatch a week ago. The 1st one that hatched, I was told to leave her in the bator until she dried, which I did. Then she started developing spraddle legs. I did the bandaid thing on her tiny legs for 4 days as suggested on this site. It did help for 1 leg, but the other it didn't, and the bad leg is now facing at 4-5:00 (but not flipping up in the air anymore at least).
I only had 2 chicks make it; the 2nd chick I removed from the Bator at 6 hrs. and she's fine (note: everything is a "she" until crows). But I'm torn as to what I should do with the mamed one if anything. I don't want the other one to get lonely, but I am afraid she won't be accepted into the Flock later on. I have no way of knowing if she's in pain as she just make the normal chick Twitter's just like the other chick, although the other chick does seem to pick on her a little, but not a lot (the smaller chick is a day younger).
Re homing isn't an option right now.
I'm not sure if keeping her is just prolonging the inevitable or if I should put her down. This is the 1st we're experiencing spraddle legs. Our flock are large breeds and they bully each other as it is (even though they have a ton of room to roam)
Any wisdom would be appreciated.
are you sure its spraddle or tendon?

We did that with the other two thermometers but haven't put the wireless digital one in baggies and done that one yet. Dinner preps took priority!

But I will. The glass one that came in the incubator has a gap in the liquid inside....just the tiniest bit of it is way up at the tippy top and the rest of it is where it's supposed to be...it's separated. That's even after doing the hot water thing to get it to "reconnect" three times. I'm about ready to put a baby rectal thermometer in there and call it good!

But I'm persistent. Got a call late this afternoon that there's a problem with the eggs I ordered so I have a little time here. You are all going to get so sick of me!

Edited to add: Not "was a smoker" Sally. "Is" a smoker. Been trying since last month's heart attack and stenting to get off them. Some days are good, most not so good. But as I said, I'm persistent. Started when I was 13, and 65 now, so it's not like a 2 year habit I"m trying to break.

@ChickenCanoe Thanks for that information, I'm going to get all of this figured out if it's the last thing I do, but I'm the first to admit that I'm not the brightest crayon in the box.
