When I started with chickens, I made a very small coop out of a dog kennel. The box part was only 20"x30". It was temporary until I got the permanent coop built. Well needless to say I got the 8x8 coop finished and they hated it. They wanted to pile into the little bitty box still to sleep. I ended up having to take it apart, and now they love their coop. Go figure

I was thinking that taking the old one down would move them to the better one. It's not like they don't use it during the day. The one I want to remove is in a corner and maybe why they prefer it. Similar to your smaller one maybe more comfy.

Oh yes! I prepare, I plan, and then plans usually go out the window. I should just relax and take things as they come lol. I should also probably take a day off every now and again, but I really don't have that much else to do

I think it has more to do with the homing instinct than anything else. "There's no place like Home". The door faced a different direction on mine and I think that played a big part. I swear the chickens have internal compasses. After a week they were fine and went in all by themselves at night.
