Hmmm.... I am starting to worry a bit. You remember that lighter colored chick? Well, now "she" is the only one of the group to stand up tall and look around when something goes overhead. Hoping I didn't get a accidental RSL male... :fl

:fl. Funny, I am hoping my RIR cockrel is not one of the two RIR that were part of the 18 dead ;)

for you. Should it grow white feathers if it is a male?

I don't know, but I hope not... That is also the one with white wing feathers....

LOL!
I think that making RSL requires using the silver gene. RIW females have only 1 copy of this gene located on the z chromosome. RIR males do not have the silver gene. When crossed, the outcome should be that the Female offspring inherit the w chromosome from the female parent. Since there is no silver gene on the w chromosome, the female offspring should be red. Alternatively, the male offspring inherit the z chromosome from their mother (which is where the dominant silver gene is located) so all of her sons should be mostly (if not all) white. That is my understanding and I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

(All that coffee in the foreground doesn't hurt, of course...)

Quote: When I built the great big 8x16 coop for the Naked Necks, I just about killed myself to build them a palatial elevated 8x8 henhouse inside where they could sleep. Had to figure out all this construction support stuff to do it.

Soooooo.... Where do they sleep? On the floor of the run part of the coop, under the bottom end of the ramp, in a big pile.

OK, gotta run to the feed store real quick, and then I've got to finish this tractor and move the Cream Legbar chicks out - they're almost 6 weeks old, and it's getting to that point where it's REALLY hard to keep the brooder anywhere CLOSE to clean, so we are OUT OF TIME!
