Well... I was told to leave the poor chick in his shell. He died a few minutes ago when I wasn't looking. He really couldn't get out, and I later discovered it was because his head was practically cemented to his body. The fluids had dried a long time ago and glued him to himself, unable to move. If I had gotten him out, I bet he would've lived. His yolk had been absorbed for a while, as I thought. I just wish I had gone with my gut instead of doing the regular routine.

In prayer and sorrow for the chick that struggled for hours before releasing himself into the hands of mercy.

Oh I'm sorry! That happened to me on my last hatch.

Dear Wh. NOT all the snake are atracted to heat! The pit vipers and some pytons do, but the majority of them are attracted to smell molecules that the pray shade to the air or water and are collected by the forked tong of the snake and are transported to the Jacobson organ in the mouth roof to be identified. And belive me eggs have awonderful aroma that say "FOOD" if you are a snake!
As someone who owns snakes, this is absolutely correct. Snakes like garden and corn snakes (the ones you usually find eating eggs) don't really sense heat and aren't picky about food so they'll eat just about anything if it smells like food. Had one of my corns accidentally eat a plastic leaf off a hide and when she noticed it wasn't actually food she spat it right back up.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to drop in and post some pictures of my new CCL babies

That's always a hard thing. Good vibes to you and apologies for your loss.

Also mornin' and happy Tuesday to y'all. Got tea and hardboiled eggs today, gonna be a good day despite my shoulder not being 100%. I'm building a fence for the chickens today, just some poles stuck in the ground and fencing attached to the poles, enough that the girls can forage without running into the car lot next door or into the street.

Mirajane, I am sorry about the chick. Next time you have one that stops like that, try wrapping it in a wet paper towel sooner. I believe you said it was open like that for quite some time in an earlier post. The wet towel keeps moisture on the shell and membranes, and gives them a chance. I usually use this trick if I see the membrane start to dry after an hour or so of a major pip. Again, sorry that the little one didn't survive. :hugs
