Hi
I am new to backyard chickens
And i am incubating my FIRST bach of duck eggs ever!!!!!

Only one is pipped so far and it is pushing the open flap to try to get out!!

Do u know how much longer it will take for it to hatch?

Welcome! :fl.

@sparticus12 I don't know anything about ducks except they take like 28 days. Have you checked the helpful links at the beginning of this thread? Sally has compiled a ton of great information and linked it for us. Good luck

Why is everyone hatching ducks?  I've heard they are messy and loud.  Yes they are cute, but why?  Are the eggs better?  Can you sell them easier?  Why?  I'm going to have enough trouble keeping my bantam chickens from my full size hens.  Why add ducks?

Why? Because they imprint on you. That means that they follow you everywhere! They will be anxious for snuggles!
As Chaos said, most people that are allergic to chicken eggs, are not allergic to duck eggs.
At eight weeks most ducks are big enough to butcher.
The eggs are better for baking.

Ducklings are cute, then just when you have had enough of their mess, they are tasty. :lau

I have never eaten duck, but will be processing any extras. Thank God for pressure canners!

When I was 7 or 8, I was living just outside Boston, my next door neighbor was a bank, the back lot behind the five & dime was behind my house. It was the CITY. I found a duck waddling down Main street. It's wings were clipped, so it just ran away from me. Eventually, I convinced it to come home with me. We named it Stubby. For about 3 months, we treated it like my new pet. It lived in the house, but spent the days outside with us kids. We went on vacation and the friends that were watching him for us, put him in a box, when he tried to jump out he broke his neck is what they told us. My dad was convinced they ate it. But a year or so later, my dad was digging in the back yard, and found him. So, for 3 months as a small child, we had A duck. I never did find out why a duck with it's wings clipped was wandering down Main St.

THANK u.should I put it with thing one or not.because thing one is huge. This one is tea tiny.even the egg was small
I would try it under supervision at first, if Thing 2 is ready to come out and is moving well. Just to make sure it does not get walked on or mashed I have meat birds with two week younger tiny Ameraucana and they hang out. It is like Tom and Jerry.
