I have a year old hatchery Buff Orpington who was always a bit bossy and flighty, nothing crazy but she was always the most "cautious" of my hens. Anywho lately ( the last 2 weeks) she's been puffing up and hissing at me when I catch her on the nest box, but she doesn't stay on it so I collect the eggs as usual and I don't think she's broody (is she pre-broody possibly). Today she puffed up at me in the run and hissed and feint charged me in the run, and generally acted super bossy. Here is a pic of her all puffed up.

She won't take her eyes off of me

2 chickens have recently been removed from the coop, could she just be acting out because her rooster is gone?

:hugs how your eggs doing? awwwww lol dont try for that humidity!! first lets go through this so we are sure you get good hatches!! because reading that I know you may need to know a few other things! Questions for you! What bator are you using? hovobator incubator where they shipped or your own eggs/local eggs? Shipped eggs = Change of plans How old were the eggs at set? They were stored and turned cool conditions? Have you misted or washed the eggs? How old is your flock? Turner or no turner? Incubated Air cell Upright or horizontal?? Fan or no Fan? You know temps should be different for Fan vs still air models? You calibrated thermo hygros and know not to rely on the one that came with the bator? You have more than one thermo hygro and they had been calibrated? You have rotated your eggs around the bator at candles? You realize humidity is NOT a set number just a tool to get the correct weight loss in the egg? You understand the majority of people for standard hatching eggs run the first 7 days 25-30% humidity (possibly 35%for shipped eggs) and adjusted from there for weight loss? You understand that you can in fact candle every two days after day 7 to just keep a closer eye on weight loss so you dont need to make major changes later on? Try to add water above in containters and not in the troughs until lockdown? You know that you should not use the vent holes to adjust humidity? AGAIN....You understand humidity is NOT a set number, most of us begin incubation 25-35% the first week and then adjust as needed per air cell growth/weight loss. Can you get pics uploaded on BYC and understand that pics help us to help you? Eggs are not shipped, flock is a majority of two year old hens, I'm not 100% sure what model it is, has a fan, and I'm also using a egg turn, temp is about 99, and I don't have a hygro meter, eggs are about a week old as well, thanks

Great! :thumbsup I am good! Yes, I had a batch in.... 91% hatch rate. 10 eggs on day 7 under a broody right now, but nothin in the bator....
:celebrate

What you don't think I've got the legs for a skirt? Things are going good. Got duck eggs cooking and we had a snow storm cause I was thinking about the garden. How's the eggs you got cooking?
you may have some very pretty legs but its what's a little further up that bothers me lol. Whoops forgot this ain't granny thread. :hide Eggs are cooking just fine. Maybe I shouldn't say cooking since that's the last thing I did to the little ones.
Been okay, how about you? -Kathy
doing good.

ok you will need a hygro, and I would be sure to up the temps to 99.5 to 100 have you calibrated your thermometers and know never to go with the one that comes with it?

most of us have three and sometimes more thermo hygros in our bators, temps and humidity are very important.
we typically start Large fowl eggs at a calibrated 30-+35% and then adjust as needed day 7 candle and on for the correct weight loss in the egg. sounds like you should check into that info I gave you.
