I've been putting all of my research time into chickens... It looks like I NEED to read up on this. Thanks for sharing this info!

Check out johnnyseedsdotcom search grafting or Maxifort. They also have a tutorial to show you what to do. Biggest part is warm and humidity. Hmm quite a bit like chickens. And just as much fun...ok almost. :lau

Your Tuesday sounds nice!

I've never seen any unusual chickens in our local feed stores.  BR, BO, NHR, RIR, EE etc.

Our local one stays pretty safe with the people around here. I use the feed store in Elk Grove off Bradshaw the people there like their chickens. The variety is large. From meat to yard art. If you see them and you where thinking of getting some don't wait a day. This same street is where I get my pen supplies.

Morning Jessimom

Good morning everyone!

Kathy

Good morning Kathy. I was going to ask you about the pros and cons of earth worms. Most of my chickens won't eat them but some do. I've been raising them on the kitchen green waste and now have begun to get enough to feed. Ive heard drying them makes it more palatable to them. Are there really diseases to watch for?

They can get some nasty things from eating earthworms. I put together a list.

Hi Kathy the feed store I go to is Bradshaw Feeds. Also says Fin Feather and Fur on the receipts. I've often thought of it as Sheldon Feeds but they must be a different store. There is also a feed store on White Rock Road. I don't go to that one as its a little further south for me.

I saw someone's earlier reply to you about giving her as many as she'll take. I don't know that I'd give her quite that many, unless you want 6 dz. chicks running around all at once :p

Seriously, try giving her a few more if you think she can cover them, keeping in mind that a hen can "flatten out" to a degree to cover a large clutch; she'll let yo know when enough is enough by pushing the extras out of the nest. Out of that many eggs, you may have an infertile egg or two. Somehow, a setting hen can determine fertility and will reject those eggs as well.

Also, I wouldn't candle the eggs, either; I've yet to run into the bird, chicken or otherwise, with the ability to candle an egg, yet they've somehow managed to successfully incubate eggs despite our efforts to improve on nature's plan.

Thank you for your reply! I have decided to let her sit on 12 only. Still waiting for my double trouble bantams to sit together on a nest. Those two girls are a force together.
