Just wanted to answer your question on the color of silks my broody is sitting on. Be patient with me please, Silkies are new to me. The eggs are from a white Silkie hen that has some black on her wing tips

hmmm Not sure with a buff roo, I know white can throw anything.  Good news on fert!!! :thumbsup
Thanks Sally, yes white does throw everything off. Its not important though, these guys are just for fun. Got them because my granddaughter wanted some. They are just pet quality

I love watching the older chicks in the morning... they've given me my morning laugh the last couple of days.

So one of our Welsummer boys found his "voice" and has been practicing a very pathetic and hilarious crow the last few days. Sounded like a squeaker toy that has met the end of it's days. I let them out this morning and stood there watching for a few like I do every day, just looking them over as best I can with half a cup of coffee in me. They're all foraging/playing and then all of a sudden Kevin crows, scared the entire group back inside the coop. They all stopped what they were doing and ran as quick as they could back in. I almost fell over with laughter. Had to lure them back out with some scratch on the ground. The next time he crowed they didn't blink an eye.

MUST HATCH EGGS MUST HATCH EGGS

Bubbles, I'm holding off on hatching. Not because of nature but because it just makes more sense for me. I can't afford to buy shipped eggs. I rushed for the Halloween hatch and ended up with only 2 chicks out of 24 set. I can only afford to wait for my cockerels and hens and pullets to get it going and hatch in February.

Brat, can you lower the temp? I agree with others about getting humidity up by getting warm water in there- maybe closer to the edges- away from the eggs.

It's an older model. It's adjusted down as far as I can get it... With all the stagger hatching I have been using this just to hatch. I have a new Brinsea with the last batch of Breese and wheaten Aneraucanas in it, that should be much better to control but harder to clean.

BTW that first post should have said 30 rather than 39! I ordered 2 dozen. The breeder sent 30. I pulled 1 clear. 29 made it to lockdown and I've hatched 22. I have 7 eggs left at day 22. Those are pretty good odds for shipped eggs.

Good morning, everyone... I hope all of you had a good night's sleep and are doing well this morning. I see a couple of you had your early morning mishaps, and in my experience, I think it's best to get that kind of thing over early in the day. It tends to make the rest of the day go smoother.

Golly geez wow.. there were lots of posts to catch up on since I said (in my ostentatious and pretentious attempt to sound debonair and chivalrous) goodnight. I've made it to here, but that'll be it for awhile... lots of other things I need to be doing. Until then....
