May I ask - how big/heavy do your lavendar orpingtons get? I like the idea of adding some lavender genetics to my Naked Neck mixes, but worry about dropping the weight too much...

My hen is a full English Orpington and I'm not sure on the Rooster but he looks full English or maybe part English and they are really large. I don't think you will have any problems with dropping weight.
My hatchery Naked Neck boys are coming out at 7-9 lbs at 6-7 months. Are the orpington boys as big as that, or close? (The listed "standard" weights for a breed are so misleading, as they vary so much between breeders/hatcheries, etc.)

I may need to get some Lavender Orpingtons next year... (do you sell/ send hatching eggs?) Yes, the Naked Necks are a very nice size - here is the latest, a seven month old cockerel, dressed out at 5 lbs, cooked tonight, quite delicious: I'm planning to cross them with German New Hampshires for what I hope will be further early growth and good size. - Ant Farm
That looks delicious!! I have never sent hatching eggs before but just put an offer on a swap page for some eggs if you are interested. I only have 1 pair of lavenders right now so if I was to gather a clutch I could only send about 3-4 at a time but I just put an offer on a swap page for 3 Lavender Orpingtons and 3 Rhodebars (which are auto-sexers)

I can't take on any more chicks or hatching eggs right now - this place is just swimming with babies...
But I may very well get in touch some time next year if I decide to go that route.

I always seem to ask my questions too late in the day. By the next morning I can't find any answers since the morning thread is all about cups of coffee. It's my time zone I know.
Any way he is young. He is overbreeding my 10 hens. He is hurting them. I don't want to put clothes on them. I don't know if penning him is an option. I don't know will this overbreeding behavior change? I don't like seein my hens with no feathers on their heads and scabs on their backs. I think maybe his breed orp, he is just too big for my med size hens. They live in a pretty big area. You would think with 10 hens he wouldn't be so over the top. Other than that he is nice to me so far.
Hey all - dropping in quick...well ended up being pretty crazy and I'm beat...I'm over 40 posts behind in this thread, soooooo I may not catch up completely but wanted to say "HEY!!" 1 week from tomorrow until HATCH for me!!
