You are not the only one. Last Christmas, my DH was making fun of me bc we took back the fancy diamond earrings he got for me so I could get a fancy incubator instead. Lol, his tone changed in June when he pleaded w me to stop making more chickens

Oh, I totally have that.

My numbers are LOW compared to you, but I have four poland roo's at the moment when I really only need one. AND, none of them are the right colour for chamois breeding so really I ought to get rid of them all. BUT, two are from my first ever hatch; how can I get rid of those boys? I just can't!
My last hatchlings are starting to reveal themselves, and there are definitely too many boys. And I don't want to get rid of any either. But I believe I will have to.

Looks like a neat one that slrose posted a link to. I have an obsession with flashlights and thermometer/hygrometers. Used to be shoes/boots, now its chicken stuff!

Sally, do you still have those turkeys you bought? How are they doing?

jsut a word of warning...it does run only in Celsius but its pretty easy to learn

any suggestions for a good flashlight? i have a small mag-light but i feel im not getting the visuals i need to accurately gauge my eggs

Did you see what I posted? He sold a Tom and as I went to pick them up he decided to tell me, he went back on his word, I dont go for that, a handshake is a handshake, he sold it for more cash is my best guess. I dont care if they were still dirt cheap, I refuse to buy from a person not of their word. I am old school and honest at heart, I dont deal with those not. So I have no turks, I will wait and see what I really want to do!

I love the chamois color! It's very tough to part w those guys! I understand!!

does your heat run around the top? I would set your thermometers where your eggs will be, rig something for now, and keep track of temps awhile and turn them as you are planning to, and keep track of temps, this will tell you if you are running too close to the heat at the top or too low at the bottom as you turn. this will tell you how your turning apparatus is holding up
the heat is at the top.... i have the sensor of the t/h hanging at the middle point etween the two rows where the eggs will be, since they will be slightly elevated on the high side and lower when turned....would that be ok?

I'm all ears regarding shipping info. Also, curious re: TSA regs regarding slipping eggs through in the US in carry on luggage. Specifically, will the X-ray on the conveyor belt damage embryo's. Also, are eggs required to be NPIP or any other certification or inspection. I talked with a TSA employee yesterday, and he said that he thinks it's up to the supervisor on duty at any particular check point. He thought that eggs would have to go through conveyor belt, and it would be wise to have a person standing by at departure point to take eggs just in case they were denied passage. My thought might be that if I were to try this, I'd take packing material and one of the pre-paid shipping boxes to the airport, arriving in plenty of time to package them for slo-mail if they were denied.
Each state has its own NPIP regulations at this point and with this AI its all changing at a days notice, as far as TSA regs I havent a clue on that stuff!

I always suggest if at all possible, DO YOUR BEST to avoid purchasing eggs across country, try finding eggs a state over or two, one that wont fly airlines. I know its not always possible, but if you search hard enough and talk to enough people you would be surprised by what you can find closer and SQ as well! Its a matter of Communication!

you have to mock set the thermometer where those eggs will be and try it at each egg position I would think, just to be safe, I am not sure how tall that takes you to the top

If it makes anybody feel better, we have about 50 roos here :)
Sometimes I'm able to find homes for a few, but it's not easy. They are mostly adorable bantams and we don't eat them. We probably have about 15 that we don't actually need.

I'm ok with Celsius. My first bator was Celcius only, so I got used to it.

My favorite is a mini-mag light, LED. First I cut the top out of a cardboard salt container, and cut a small hole on the other end, applied some craft foam, and inserted the mag light with some paper towels stuffed around it to hold it. Worked pretty well. But this last hatch, I just stuck some of the craft foam to the end of the flashlight, folded it around the edges and taped it. Much easier. I still have a bunch of those flashlights that everybody puts near the checkout counters, but I like the mini-mag the best.

I saw the post, just misunderstood I guess. I thought you had already bought them a while back, and was waiting on another tom or something. What a douchebag. I'm sorry.

Well no wonder you have so many... they are adorable! But thank you, it always makes me feel better to know that others have a hard time with roos too.

WV I know, some people say I am stupid for not getting the four for the lesser price and he was going to deliver anyways, but still I wouldn't do it. He was thrilled, probably because he realized how much he can sell them all for, He will get what he gives, it works both ways, good and evil.

QUESTION:

What do you all use for separators in your hatchers? got pics to show us?

I had this when I did small batches a few years ago and cant find the dumb thing now, and I need it for next hatch, I guess I can bend some wire.
or go shopping
