are you candling as they are sitting I HOPE!!!

lol add a few red marbles to their food as well, if that doesnt work try adding a mirror to give the chick a break
Mornin' Sally
I understand the mirror, but why red marbles, as opposed to another color? Have anything to do w/eye color? I know my rooster, nasty devil that he is, has red eyes, but I never took particular notice of eye color on any others.

Thanks to all of you I have gotten the hatching bug. Waiting on awesome @tjchicken eggs to hatch some more friends.

I fear this will happen once I build my incubator. I returned the LG to the friend I borrowed it from. Once I have a functional incubator available I don't know when I'll stop hatching.

I have 7 eggs that are from some fairly new hens, i am 12 hours into day 20, wit no internal pip yet! (soon, I know I am impatient!). Anyhow, I was looking for anyone who had experience hatching small eggs? Do the chicks just come out smaller or is there a good chance I won't get any chicks?
Also, the eggs I buy from the store the eggs crack very easy, where as mine take quite a bang to crack, will the chick be able to get out of it?

Whoa nelly. Had to skip ahead because the thread is so fast.

So I cleaned out the coop yesterday. I'm trying out "chicken aromatherapy" where I lay out herbs in the nesting boxes. Wild birds line their nests with flowers and herbs that are high in essential oils and I think it would help my girls relax a bit. Woke up and fed this morning, checked the coop as I normally do...They mixed the herbs all up into the bedding and there was no poo to be found indoors. XD

Not sure what that means, but I didn't see any mites crawling neither so I think this may be a good thing.

I hatched 5/10 pullet eggs in September. The chicks looked small to start, but grew fast. I have one that is still small for her age, but I think she is like her mom and just small.
The membranes are tougher on eggs from your flock, but the chicks hatch just fine.

what herbs did you use?

Mint, bay leaves, chamomile, rose petals, a touch of cinnamon, orange peel, thyme, rosemary, and some other things. I forgot what all is in it. I plan on making a new mix until I see what works.
That must smell lovely! I'm thinking of adding mint for pest control. I hadn't decided on other herbs though. Thank you for the tip and please keep us posted on what you find works.
