Close to day 22 on these eggs and i'm nit seeing any pips yet. They are chirping and moving but nothing external. How long before I hould worry?
grab one or two and candle quickly to check for internal pips and life, be sure to either mist the side of the bator or use a damp clothe to wipe the inside of the bator to bring the humidity right back up. dont leave the bator open, and dont carelessly drop and egg. candle and get it back in. are you sure your temps were not too low during incubation or your humidity too high? this is the cause for late hatches? doing so will not hurt your hatch as long as you follow my guidelines DO NOT GET YOUR EGGS WET.

Nah @Sally Sunshine no extra babies yet! Just bigger housing for my current girls. We get TONS of pallets and have giant sheets of plywood just laying around. Ironically the smaller, more splintery-looking wood pallets give you more profit at the recycling center here than the large, fairly good wood (which only nets maybe a few euro).

I'm taking two large roughly three meter pallets and I'll have to scavenge some wood from this week's kitchen breakdown or something to get the raw material for the coop. We'll spring 16 euro a pop for two corrugated plastic sheets for the roofing. In all it'll be a lean-to style design on wood or brick risers to give it height and two nesting boxes for all eight girls. I'm also sourcing agricultural lime (slaked lime used for drawing those white lines on football fields) to use for whitewash on the inside of the coop to keep out mites and I'm going to use pet-quality wood dowels for roosts. I got a real good plan y'all!

sounds like a cool plan! you told me about the roofing, its cheaper here for the rolled tar roofing stuff here. at least for me.

I got my Brinsea barely used, but I think a new humidity pump add-on is like $159!!

And oops!

awwww the aunt that just passed away was my Aunt Tootie this chick is gorgeous

did you do a quick candle?

I am using an LED flashlight, which is way better than what I was using....my phone....I have 3 thermometers and a hygrometer in there now. my last hatches I only had the one that came with the bator....bad idea but I'm still learning, this is only my third hatch, but I still got about 50% outta those, even though my new thermometers are telling me that the one that came with is off a few degrees. So far I'm having a much easier time though! I've been keeping my humidity between 35-45....some of those eggs had wonky air cells when I candled them when I got them...so I've got them in cut down egg cartons upright.
a few degrees can do it for sure

I can't keep up but wanted to share a picture to illustrate why we calibrate. All the same brand. All read the same a month ago. All in the same conditions for the past week. All read different.
I also will be investing in a thermometer with tenths digits to compare to my thermostat.
excellent example of WHY to calibrate!

(C&P from Thanksgiving HAL)

Well... got 12 more eggs today.

Also ordered a second incubator for a hatcher since we will be having a staggered hatch.

But on a side note I am glad we got another dozen, candled real quick when I added some water last night (day 10) and 3 of the 6 that had started quit

Still frustrated that half of the first dozen were clear at the 7 day candle. I know these eggs had a rough ride because of the detached air cells. But still. I wanted a good hatch

So batch #1 will be due 11/17

Batch #2 will be due 11/28.

And I may or may not have a 3rd dozen coming to me too...

I'm telling myself it is because my mother in law asked if she could keep a few after we move when our house is finished...

I feel for you, almost all the fridge eggs are trash in my bator, and the serama out of kiddos pen are almost all infertle for some reason. idk why!
I am so bummed.

@Sally Sunshine I have caught my temps dropping in the evening over the last 4 nights. I'm sure it's happened during day 1-17 as well. Not sure why because day temps are always steady. My humidity was at 45 until lockdown. I'm sure they are delayed because of the temp variants. I can see all 3 of them bumping around but wondered why I wasn't getting external pips.

When I get back home if they haven't externally pipped I'll try taking them out to candle.

I thought that if they are cheeping then they are internally pipped. Peeping means using their lungs doesn't it?
