No kidding... bought all these Calls and the girls decided to lay like crazy but the boys are done for the year...

Can't wait to see all the different kinds of babies we'll get...

Where do you get your calls? Can you have call hens if there is a regular drake around?

Peep-Chicken - look up the post Mama's Heating Pad in the Brooder. I started using it, and threw my heat lamp away. My chicks loved it and it is perfect for them.

Try it, you won't regret it.

Thanks! There are 13 now, 50% hatch so far, about 7 more pips, the other 6 are unknown at the moment.

Just some barnyard mixes. Mom's are pure but dad is a cream legbarX? About half of the pullets should be olive eggers so that's neat.

CONGRATULATIONS

Bought my Calls from a breeder friend who had some unforseen awful circumstances come up... she pretty much sold out to me except a quad she was able to keep... as for a regular drake, no... good quality Call ducks are at most a pound and a half... a regular sized drake outweighs them by at least 3 to 4 times... he would kill them just trying to mate... I have 2 regular sized ducks with mine, but I also won't hatch their eggs... you really don't want to breed Calls with bigger types...

Every time another one hatches it's honey I can't believe the luck with hatching. Nobody has this many....and the most important part....
They won't all hatch! That never happens! Lol

I think after my zero hatch last week followed by days of crying. I think hubby will let me do anything to stop crying! i'm totally using this to my advantage!

oh no, you did well, I was just wondering why they were such bad shape is all, but its normal for shipped eggs.   everyone should always note the size of the air cells when they get them, it tells how old the eggs are too. if you take into account how many days they were in route and how they were packed, but if they came in a material that would take moisture out of them, they would also get bigger air cells, also not helping the hatch.  This is why you need to request how to get your eggs.   see my point.

Thanks, Sally! I read a long thread on the Incuveiw just the other day, but can't seem to find it now. Most people that tried it were thrilled with it. The main issue was capacity, but other than that, it appears to be holding very steady temp and humidity. It's been "breaking in" for about 4 hours now, and the temp hasn't fluctuated over 1 degree F, even with my wife heating and steaming up the house while cooking supper. I'm getting quite higher readings on temp and humidity with the IncuTherm that I purchased with the bator. 2.0F - 2.2F higher than the thermometer on the lid, and humidity on the IncuTherm shows 67%, the gauge on the lid is just 2/3 of the "incubation range". A traditional thermometer set at egg-top height is reading 98F. Maybe I'm just overthinking everything, but I want everything to be as perfect as possible before setting those first eggs. I removed the lid this evening to pour the water out of the outer ring and try the middle ring to see if I could drop the humidity a bit, and when I went to replace the lid, the unit shut off. I started checking connections, and when I'd move the transformer a certain way, it would lose power. Sounds like a faulty connection, even though the unit would turn back on after a few seconds. I don't think transformers have tip-over safety switches, so I'll be giving Incubator Warehouse a call in the morning, The last thing I need is to lose power to the unit during the middle of incubation...
