That would put the chick at day 25, right? That would be the ceiling for hatch days, if my memory serves me correctly... any unhatched eggs after 25 days should be discarded.@Sally Sunshine are you talking about Joy? I went and dug up my old record keeping book…. Her mom started sitting on the nest part-time (she spent more time off than on) on the 15th of February 2012 (summer in SA). We started removing all the fresh eggs added to the nest when we saw her sitting and left the eggs she had under her. Joy hatched from those eggs on the 30th of March. (And darn near gave me a heart attack in the process as I was so sure those eggs were all dead and rotten by then). The latest I've had a "normal" broody hen chick hatch was due on a Monday, hatched Friday. I remember that because we named the chick Friday.
Any more progress?I'm here
Ah... their new home. Are those newspapers in the bottom of the tub? Newspaper is slippery and shouldn't be used unless it's been shredded or dampened and allowed to dry completely. Otherwise, the chicks could get splay legs. Paper towels will give them more traction than slick newspaper...
