Instead of a separate membrane, I just used a fence & deck sealer/stain to protect the wood on the bottom. Keeps wetness from soaking in. Some people paint on a roofing sealer (Blackjack?) and have had really good luck with it.

Now that you mention it, I have a gallon of Thompson's Water Seal. Would make it water proof, and I could spray the brooder with a water hose after cleanouts. Thanks for the tip... and the compliment!!!!

I don't know! Probably?? It won't move, It looks like it's head is tucked between its feet, should I risk the inner membrane to get the beak? I mean, this chick is probably dead right??? NO Yolk I don't see a yolk, the chell is almost all off now. I see feet

yes you probably need to pull the neck up and then the chick will follow.......

You're doing great. I would break the inner membrane if there is no movement.
