Sigh. I knew it was coming, but it is still hard.... Emma, my 7 1/2 year old EE, is slowing down. She doesn't run as fast, and although she still roosts high up, she is the last one down. :( she still has quality of life, but I have my doubts about her surviving the winter..... I just wish she was still young.

Aw, Bubbles... so sorry. It's never easy seeing an old friend go down, human or animal. I know your pain...   :hugs

Thanks.

I am a morning person. My wife says that I go to sleep when the chickens do.

That's me!

I'm going to say that now haha. I have a hard time staying up until my kids go to sleep. But I'ma up before the crack of dawn. Every. day.

* Update on my hatch: took out 3 quitters last night. After horror stories of eggs gone bad I am sure I can smell something off. So to be safe I took the eggs out I'm sure weren't developing anymore. Down to 10 viable.
** None of the eggs were stinky when I smelled them up close so I'm still not sure what I am smelling. I do have three boys so .....

Sorry about your quitters, but that comes with the territory... so to speak. It's best not to put the other eggs at risk, so removing them is the right thing to do. Here's hoping you have 10 happy, healthy chicks from the remaining eggs!

Just checked on my week-old Barred Rocks, and they're starting to get wing bars. See, this thread isn't all about hunting!

I wish I was an itty bitty too

Cameras didn't show anything. Looked around more and let the others out to see if their sounds would convince her to come out of hiding. Still nothing.
I'll take the kids out for a walk in a bit to see if we can find her.

hope you find her in good health

:weee that's great! It'd be nice if babies would stay that size and somehow laid eggs bigger then they we're. Could you imagine the chicken math that would start. ?

:frow good morning!

@venymae and @chickendreams24 keeping your families in my thoughts and prayers :hugs

@Brat Flock how are your eggs doing this morning?

@fire370 I think it's great that you and your family are hunting responsibly and have such a setup to process your own. My goal this coming year is to start learning to process birds here at home ourselves. I think it's a good skill to know and I want to teach my kids too.

@Sally Sunshine :hugs hope you're feeling better today.

I'm on mobile so I can't see who all is on right now, but good morning to everyone! :frow

@RoxysAnimals I skimmed through pretty fast but didn't see an answer to your question about thermometers. Can you post us an update? Also, what kind were the other 2 thermometers you put in? Did you calibrate any of them?

Yes it would... but laying an egg bigger than they are would be akin to G.W. Bush's "fuzzy math"... as well as chicken math!

PS: Good morning, Billy!
